Job description

As a key member of the Finance team, the Assistant Controller supports the Controller in the financial stewardship of Alyeska Resort. Reporting directly to the Controller this role assists with financial reporting, accounting processes, budgeting, compliance and contributes to the overall success of the resort through strong financial management, process improvement, and team development. 

Position Responsibilities 

Financial Reporting & Accounting Leadership 

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reporting packages under the direction of the Controller. 
  • Support coordination of month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to deadlines. 
  • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for Controller review. 
  • Monitor and reconcile balance sheet accounts in accordance with company policies and accounting standards. 
  • Maintain fixed asset records and ensure compliance with corporate reporting requirements. 
  • Support daily, weekly, and monthly reporting processes, including management reporting and operational dashboards. 
  • Assist with cash flow monitoring and weekly financial performance reporting. 

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis 

  • Assist the Controller in supporting the annual operating budget and capital planning process across all resort departments.  
  • Help departmental leaders with budget development, forecasting, and financial planning activities. 
  • Analyze financial performance, identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and provide recommendations for Controller and leadership review.  
  • Monitor actual results against budget and forecast, investigating variances and preparing supporting analysis. 
  • Assist in the preparation of labor planning tools, workforce analysis, and operational performance reporting. 
  • Support strategic initiatives through financial modeling, scenario planning, and ad hoc analysis. 

Compliance, Controls & Risk Management 

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with company accounting policies, procedures, and internal control standards. 
  • Support annual audits, reviews, and other financial examinations by preparing schedules and supporting   documentation. 
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen financial controls and improve operational efficiency. 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies and process improvements. 

Leadership, Team & Culture Development 

  • Provide day-to-day support to accounting team members, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Income Audit, Payroll, and General Cashier functions. 
  • Assist the Controller with onboarding and training of accounting team members. 
  • Foster a collaborative and service-oriented culture within the Finance department. 
  • Build strong working relationships with operational leaders and serve as a trusted financial resource across the resort. 

Systems & Process Improvement 

  • Develop and maintain proficiency in all resort operating systems and financial applications. 
  • Support system implementations, upgrades, integrations, and reporting enhancements. 
  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology and automation to improve reporting accuracy and operational efficiency. 
  • Maintain advanced working knowledge of accounting systems, PMS platforms, POS systems, labor management tools, UKG, Sage and Microsoft Excel. 

Financial Partnership & Business Support 

  • Partner with department leaders to improve financial performance and drive accountability for results. 
  • Provide timely analysis and insights to support operational decision-making. 
  • Assist the Controller in presenting financial information and recommendations to senior leadership. 
  • Contribute to cross-functional initiatives that enhance profitability, efficiency, and guest experience.

Essential Skills & Experience 

  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within hospitality, tourism, resort operations, or a multi-department service environment. 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline. 
  • CPA designation or active enrollment in a recognized accounting designation program preferred. 
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred. 
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls. 
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical capabilities with strong attention to detail. 
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with accounting, payroll, PMS, and POS systems. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively partner with leaders at all levels of the organization. 
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
