Position Summary

The Controller is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for managing all accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance (specifically IOLTA trust accounts), while overseeing billing and AP/AR teams. The Controller reports to firm executive leadership, producing financial statements, implementing internal controls, and forecasting cash flow. This role ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across multiple critical functions while helping advance Martin Pringleโ€™s vision, culture, and core values. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong leadership, excellent judgment, and the ability to manage multiple highโ€‘complexity functions while providing structure, accountability, and continuous improvement across departments.


Key Functions of the Role

Leadership & Accountability (LMA)

  • Lead and manage accounting and back-office team.
  • Provide coaching, development, and structured growth opportunities for employees.
  • Promote and model company culture, values, and frameworks.
  • Maintain and improve departmental procedures and documentation.


Accounting and Finance Responsibilities

  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, such as balance sheets and income statements.
  • Establish policies to ensure integrity in systems, processes and data, while managing income tax and other legal compliance.
  • Overseeing daily accounting functions like accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
  • Draft budgets, track relevant financial metrics, maintain appropriate business activity reports, and prepare financial forecasts to guide strategic decisions.
  • Assist management in making financial decisions by analyzing data, monitoring costs, and spotting trends.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 4+ years of accounting, or finance experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).
  • Experience with financial modeling and analysis.
  • Ability to maintain high confidentiality and professional judgment.
  • Strong analytical, problemโ€‘solving, and decisionโ€‘making skills.
  • Ability to use initiative and make recommendations.
