Job description

Newcomer Funeral Service Group is looking for a Controller who shares our Core Values of Excellence, Trust, Care and Growth and is committed to strong financial leadership, accuracy and service. In this role, you will prepare financial statements, summarize and forecast the company’s financial position, and ensure accounting practices align with regulatory, accounting and internal control standards.

As Controller, you will support the Accounting Department and field locations by preparing, examining and analyzing accounting records, financial statements and reports for accuracy and completeness. You will also support audit schedules, maintain subsidiary accounts, resolve discrepancies, and assist with fixed assets, sales tax filings and property tax reporting across multiple states.

You will strengthen financial visibility and operational decision-making through accounting software, reporting automation, analytics and approved AI-enabled productivity tools. This includes reviewing monthly financials, performing variance and trend analysis, creating operational reports, identifying process improvements, and partnering with IT, divisional leadership and operational teams to improve data quality, dashboards, workflow automation and exception reporting.

Successful team members are detail-oriented, organized and able to balance independent work with collaboration across departments and locations. This position requires professional judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to confidentiality, data privacy, security and record retention standards when handling company financial information or using AI-enabled tools.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants will have a four-year degree in Accounting or Finance, with a CPA preferred. A minimum of five years of demonstrated accounting experience is required. Experience with Great Plains Accounting Software, public accounting with an audit emphasis, advanced Microsoft Excel, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Power Query, Power BI or similar reporting and automation tools is preferred.
