Position Summary

Good Samaritan University Hospital, a member of Catholic Health, is seeking a skilled and compassionate Per Diem Orthopedic Physician Assistant (PA) to join our dynamic and growing Orthopedic service line. This role provides hands-on clinical support across inpatient and emergency settings, ensuring high-quality, timely orthopedic care to our diverse patient population.

The Orthopedic PA will work collaboratively with orthopedic surgeons, hospitalists, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams to support patient evaluation, stabilization, and ongoing management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical care for orthopedic patients in inpatient, ED, and perioperative settings under the supervision of attending orthopedic physicians.

  • Perform comprehensive orthopedic assessments, order/interpret diagnostic studies, and participate in treatment planning.

  • Conduct joint reductions, splinting, casting, wound management, and other orthopedic procedures within scope.

  • Assist in pre-operative and post-operative patient management, including patient education and discharge planning.

  • Coordinate care with surgeons, residents, consultants, nursing staff, and ancillary departments to ensure safe and efficient patient throughput.

  • Document all clinical encounters in the EMR in accordance with Catholic Health policies and New York State regulations.

  • Participate in rounds, consult evaluations, and follow-up assessments as directed.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current New York State Physician Assistant License

  • NCCPA certification (active)

  • BLS and ACLS certification

  • Clinical experience in orthopedics, hospital medicine, emergency medicine, or surgical services

  • Strong procedural skills (splinting, casting, joint exams, reduction techniques)

  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and patient-centered care skills

Preferred:

  • Prior inpatient orthopedic experience

  • Experience working in a high-volume hospital or ED setting

  • Familiarity with EPIC or other major EMR systems
