Job description

Position Summary:

The 1st Assistant Golf Professional is responsible for supporting the Director of Golf, Head Golf Professional, and the entire golf staff with all facets of the golf operation. The primary responsibility is to promote the game of golf through facilitation of daily member/guest play, tournament operations, golf shop operations, outside operations, and club repair. The Assistant Golf Professional will promote and may participate in a professional teaching program as approved by the Head Golf Professional and/or Director of Golf. This position will also enforce the rules and regulations of Wycliffe Golf and Country Club.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist with implementation of all facets of the golf operation, which includes, but is not limited to the following:
    • Assist the golf staff with tournament operations, tee time management, golf shop operations, club repair, and supervisory responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Golf and/or Head Golf Professional
    • Help organize and facilitate an active tournament schedule, which includes tee time assignments, preparation of rule sheets and score cards, demonstrate the ability to make rule decisions when applicable, record tournament scores, reconcile tournament results and implement golf/social activities.
    • Assists in the coordination and execution of tournaments and special events.
    • Implement all WGA activities as directed by the Head Golf Professional and/or Director of Golf
    • Conducts lessons, clinics, and maintains handicap records.
    • Assist with golf shop operations by keeping golf supplies current, assist with receiving and pricing of merchandise, perform monthly inventory control, and reconcile daily sales reports
    • Assist with the supervision and maintenance of the fleet carts; must have a basic understanding of golf cart management
    • Provide competent golf club-fitting when requested and approved by Head Golf Professional and/or Director of Golf
    • Assists in daily opening and closing responsibilities.
  • The 1st Assistant Golf Professional must perform the following tasks throughout the year as follows:
    • Enforce the rules and regulations
    • Assist the Head Golf Professional with the implementation of the departmental training program
    • Cooperate with members and guests, golf committees, and management by providing professional advice, opinions, assistance, and/or services
    • Represent Wycliffe Golf and Country Club by playing in local golf events and/or volunteering professional services within the local community
    • To be visible to the membership (insuring ease of staging carts & player access to the course, playing golf with the membership, etc)
    • Fill-in for any other golf staff member when necessary and authorized by the Head Golf Professional and/or Director of Golf
  • Maintain an open line of communication with the Membership seeking feedback regarding tournament operations, club repair, golf-related programs, and golf shop operations
  • To carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the policies and applicable regulations of Wycliffe Golf and Country Club.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe working environment, with emphasis on promoting employee health and safety.
  • Performs other tasks assigned by the Head Golf Professional and/or Director of Golf.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The Assistant Golf Professional should have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The Assistant Golf Professional should strive to develop the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

The Assistant Golf Professional should have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. The Assistant Golf Professional should also have the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

The Assistant Golf Professional should have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

The Assistant Golf Professional must be enrolled in the LPGA/PGA Apprentice Program and actively working towards Class A Membership in either organization.
