Job Summary/Overview

The Golf Course Irrigation Technician is responsible for overseeing a comprehensive preventative maintenance program including the operation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of the irrigation systems for the On Top of the World Communities golf courses. This program includes the repair of failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and communicating needs for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following statements describe the principal functions of this position and the scope of responsibility, but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may be expected to perform other duties as assigned, including working in other areas to cover absences or balance the workload. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Responsible for the operation of all facets and components of the golf course irrigation systems
  • Maintains the irrigation systems' mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components
  • Repairs distribution lines, valves, risers, and sprinkler heads
  • Maintains and repairs master and satellite controllers
  • Performs periodic inspections of components and systems to ensure proper condition
  • Properly maintains pumps, including packing and greasing
  • Replaces strainer filters as needed on hydraulic system
  • Monitors daily water usage through accurate meter readings
  • Performs daily soil moisture, temperature, and rainfall readings
  • Edges around irrigation heads, boxes, valves, etc.
  • Identifies and communicates parts needed
  • Repairs damaged turf with seed, plugs or sod as needed
  • Assists the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in the supervision and management of the golf course crew
  • Responsible for compliance with safety procedures including use of proper PPE, recordkeeping, MSDS filing, and safe work practices
  • Monitors employee work habits to ensure proper safety procedures and equipment operation are enforced
  • Communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
  • Places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and part storage facility
  • Performs on-call duties 24 hrs/7days
  • Performs all duties in adherence to OTOW standards
  • Strives to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices
  • Maintains a positive and professional demeanor toward all residents, visitors and co-workers
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications (Education, Experience, Technical Skills)

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous grounds and equipment experience preferred
