Their duties often include assisting with security clearances, conducting security training, maintaining security records, and responding to security incidents. Assistant FSOs play a critical role in protecting classified information and supporting the overall security posture of their organization. They often act as a liaison between employees and the FSO to ensure security policies are understood and followed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Assistant Facility Security Officer (Assistant FSO), and why are they important?

To thrive as an Assistant FSO, you need a solid understanding of security regulations (such as NISPOM), security clearance processes, and compliance procedures, usually supported by a security or related degree. Familiarity with security management systems, government portals like DISS or e-QIP, and certifications such as the Industrial Security Professional (ISP) credential is beneficial.
