The Role and Why It's Important
As the Dollar Fresh, Fresh Foods Manager at Hy-Vee, you'll oversee the Produce, Bakery, and Home Meal Replacement departments, setting the standard for quality, freshness, and customer experience across all three. From managing orders and vendor relationships to leading your team and driving profitability, your work shapes what customers see and experience every time they shop the fresh side of our store.

What You'll Do
No two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:
  • Set and uphold standards for customer service, cleanliness, professional appearance, and overall profitability across all fresh food departments
  • Assist the Store Manager in overseeing store operations and act on issues in the manager's absence, including key holder opening and closing responsibilities
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, and develop employees; handle employee issues and coordinate disciplinary procedures as needed
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local health and food safety regulations
  • Lead sales initiatives and actively pursue profitability goals across departments
  • Coordinate physical inventory, verify accuracy, and prepare P and L reports as requested by the Store Director
  • Monitor perpetual inventory, manage cycle counts, identify discontinued products, and review orders for accuracy before submission
  • Operate and maintain the AD Program, monitor RPM reports, and maintain items and price files
  • Meet with sales reps to evaluate new items, negotiate special purchases, determine pricing, and merchandise products
  • Design and build displays, set planograms, and ensure product quality and quantities meet customer demand
  • Check in product, review invoices, label backroom containers with received dates, and unload trucks
  • Review product freshness, rotate and replenish merchandise, and maintain a well-faced department at all times
  • Oversee building and grounds maintenance, store sanitation, and cleaning to meet store director guidelines
  • Train employees on safety procedures, complete customer accident forms, and manage first reports of injury as needed
  • Assist with product recall events and coordinate all related in-store activities
  • Maintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies
  • Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed
  • You'll receive direction and support from: Store Director and Store Manager

Your Skills
To be successful in this role, you'll need to be able to:
  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team across multiple departments in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Use logical thinking to solve complex problems with multiple variables
  • Perform arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric calculations as needed
  • Communicate clearly in writing and verbally, including preparing presentations and advising others
  • Handle confidential information including employee wages, files, and sales and profit data with discretion
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; one or more years of retail management experience preferred

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
  • Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
  • Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
  • Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
  • Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties

Working Environment
This is a fast-moving, hands-on role performed across multiple departments in a retail store environment. You may encounter exposure to dust, noise, temperature extremes, equipment movement hazards, electrical shock, and cleaning chemicals or solvents.
