Position Summary
The Crusher Operator / Foreman is responsible for the safe, efficient operation and supervision of portable and stationary crushing plants. This position oversees daily crushing operations, operates and monitors crushing and screening equipment, coordinates maintenance, ensures product quality, and maintains compliance with all safety and environmental regulations. The Crusher Foreman is responsible for the supervision of crusher crew members.
Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities
Operations
  • Operate and oversee crushing, screening, conveying and material-handling equipment
  • Monitor plant production and adjust equipment settings to achieve desired production rates and product specification
  • Coordinate daily crushing activities and work schedules
  • Coordinate with quality control personnel and project staff as required
  • Complete daily production reports and operation logs

Supervision
  • Lead, direct and train crusher crew members
  • Assign daily tasks and monitor crew performance
  • Conduct safety meetings and enforce company safety policies
  • Communicate production goals and operational issues to management
  • Promote teamwork and a positive work environment

Equipment Maintenance
  • Perform daily inspection of crushers, screens, conveyors, loaders, and support equipment
  • Identify and report mechanical issues
  • Coordinate and assist with preventive maintenance and repairs
  • Maintain equipment records and service documentation
  • Ensure proper lubrication, cleaning and upkeep of plant equipment

Safety and Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA / MSHA and company safety standards
  • Conduct pre-shift inspections and hazard assessments
  • Ensure all crew members use required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and shut down situations
    Qualifications
    • 3 to 5 years of crushing plant experience preferred
    • Previous supervisory or foreman experience preferred
    • Strong knowledge of crushing, screening and conveying systems
    • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues
    • Knowledge of aggregate production and quality control practices
    • Strong communication and leadership skills
    • Ability to read and understand equipment manuals and operational procedures
    • Self-directed, driven by results, and highly motivated requiring minimal direct guidance
    • Proven track record of maintaining a safe work culture
    • Knowledge of construction processes related to area of responsibility
    • Ability to use a computer and/or mobile device, including use of MS Office, Android and iOS applications required

    Education
    • MHSA certification is required
    • Valid Drivers' License and ability to maintain a clean driving history required
    • Commercial Drivers' License (CDL) is required
    • Experience operating loaders, excavators, dozers and other heavy equipment
    • Welding and fabrication experience
    • Preventive maintenance and repair experience

    Physical Requirements
    • Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)
    • Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
    • Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle and manipulate objects, write, use a keyboard and/or mobile device
    • Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear), and perform tasks requiring visual acuity
    • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
    • Standing/working on feet for long periods (8 hours or more), and walking across uneven terrain
    • Frequently work in close proximity to heavy equipment and machinery
    • Frequent exposure to typical construction site conditions, including dust and loud noise, and varying weather conditions
    • Some exposure to fuel, oil, and other chemicals
    • Comfortable working in dusty and noisy environments
    • Ability to work extended hours, weekends and travel to job sites as required
