The YMCA of Greater Kansas City is hiring a Sports Field Monitor to be the on-site presence for sports programs across our branches - keeping games, practices, and open play running safely and smoothly, from Bitty Sports, where kids ages 3-5 learn to love a sport through the basics in a structured, fun, non-competitive environment, up through competitive youth leagues. This is a great fit for coaches, referees, former athletes, recreation staff, and anyone who loves youth sports and wants flexible, rewarding work with a mission-driven nonprofit. The focus for this position is on our Bitty Sports but we could use help across all our programs.
Why You'll Love Working at the Y
  • Be part of a nationally respected nonprofit dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility
  • Free individual YMCA membership
  • Hands-on leadership and customer service experience in sports programming

OUR CULTURE:
The YMCA of Greater Kansas City's mission and core values are brought to life by our culture. It's who we are, who we aspire to be and how we show up every day. We are cause-driven. We don't just show up, we show up with purpose. We are welcoming: we are open to all. We are a place where you can belong and become. We are genuine: we value you and embrace your individuality. We are hopeful: we believe in you and your potential to become a catalyst in the world. We are nurturing: we support you in your journey to develop your full potential. We are determined: above all else, we are on a relentless quest to make our community stronger beginning with you.
Responsibilities
As a Sports Field Monitor, you'll be the go-to person on-site for YMCA sports events, keeping programs running safely and smoothly. Day to day, you will:
  • Monitor and supervise a variety of YMCA sports events, leagues, and tournaments with a focus on Bitty Sports
  • Run the Bitty Sports program on-site; giving kids ages 3-5 years a fun introduction to the game with an emphasis on fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship
  • Oversee recreation programs, sports officials, coaches, and attendees, stepping in to assist as needed
  • Confirm officials, instructors, and coaches arrive on time and are ready for scheduled games
  • Open and/or close designated fields and facilities according to program schedules
  • Learn facility operations, including equipment and facility systems
  • Deliver excellent customer service to players, families, and Y members
  • Enforce safety rules and step in when patrons aren't following guidelines
  • Communicate clearly with program managers, specialists, and fellow Y associates
  • Handle set-up and clean-up for games and events

Qualifications
