Job description

Network Field Technician
Location: Clarksville, TN (Onsite)
Experience: 4-8 years

Role Overview
The Network Field Technician (Support & Uplift Projects) provides on-site technical support across U.S. locations. This role is responsible for network incident response, infrastructure refresh activities, and ongoing maintenance of physical network infrastructure to ensure reliable network operations throughout the engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Incident Response & Break-Fix Support
  • Provide hands-and-feet support for network incidents across sites.
  • Respond to network outages, hardware failures, and connectivity issues.
  • Troubleshoot physical layer issues, including cabling, patching, and network hardware.
  • Replace network devices and UPS components as required.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to senior engineers or the Team Lead.

Uplift & Refresh Projects
  • Support IDF buildouts, cabling upgrades, and device refresh initiatives.
  • Assist with the implementation of network infrastructure changes.
  • Participate in wireless surveys and deployment activities.
  • Support site connectivity upgrade projects.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors during installation activities.

Physical Infrastructure Maintenance
  • Perform audits of network equipment in IDFs, MDFs, and wiring closets.
  • Maintain cable management, labeling, and infrastructure documentation.
  • Support fiber installation, patching, and connectivity validation.
  • Provide basic physical support for F5 load balancers.
  • Assist with on-site issue resolution in coordination with vendor teams.

Documentation & Communication
  • Document incident resolutions and field activities in ticketing systems.
  • Maintain site survey and fiber installation records.
  • Provide regular updates on field activities and outstanding items.
  • Escalate site-level risks and infrastructure concerns as needed.
  • Travel to client facilities, including locations within a 30-mile radius

Qualifications & Skills
  • 3+ years of experience in network field support or infrastructure technician roles.
  • Hands-on experience with structured cabling, IDF/MDF operations, and hardware break-fix support.
  • Familiarity with Cisco switching, routing, and wireless technologies.
  • Experience working in manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel between facilities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CompTIA Network+ or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with fiber optic installations and testing.
  • Exposure to network refresh, migration, or modernization projects.

The annual salary for this position is between $49,001- $90,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and is subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
