Job Summary
We are seeking an Software Engineering Technician II to provide dedicated day-to-day support to the Software Engineering and Systems Engineering teams by maintaining readiness of lab areas used for software verification testing and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing. The technician will own recurring lab setup, hardware configuration, troubleshooting, and sustainment tasks that are currently being completed by engineers, improving lab availability, test throughput, and configuration consistency. This role supports engineering with moderately complex engineering duties and hands-on tasks and is expected to work independently for several days at a time.
What You Will Do
• Support Software and Systems Engineering with moderately complex lab and engineering support tasks, including hands-on setup, maintenance, and repair activities.
• Assemble, configure, and maintain hardware test setups used for software verification and HIL testing; execute rebuilds/repairs as needed to keep labs ready for scheduled work.
• Maintain configuration consistency across lab setups (as directed by engineering), including labeling, cabling, and controlled setup documentation.
• Manage lab hardware inventory (boards, spares, cables, fixtures, and related items), including tracking usage, identifying shortages, and supporting procurement as needed.
• Review project instructions and drawings to understand test specifications, procedures, objectives, required equipment, and the nature of technical issues to be addressed.
• Set up and conduct tests of units and components; assist engineers with data collection and documenting results as required.
• Investigate solutions to product or process problems.
• Record test procedures and results (numerical and graphical data as applicable) and provide recommendations for improvements to test methods, fixtures, or lab processes.
• Prepare and update supporting documentation, including schematics/drawings, build notes, procedures, and maintenance documentation for lab equipment and setups.
• Provide hands-on feedback to engineers and communicate lab issues/risks early to reduce schedule impacts.
• Assist in the design, build, and/or procurement of new or improved tools, fixtures, and lab equipment and coordinate implementation as directed.
• Support continuous improvement efforts for lab organization, safety, and efficiency (5S, standard work, checklists, etc.).
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Computer Electronics Technology, Electronic Engineering Technology, or Electronic Technology - Automation.
  • 1+ years of directly related experience supporting engineering or lab/test activities (or equivalent training/experience).
  • Competence with working in a shop/laboratory environment and using standard test and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to work independently for several days, manage time effectively, and follow established procedures on routine work.
Additional Desirable Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge
  • Experience with electronics assembly, cable build/repair, bench wiring, and rework.
  • Experience supporting software verification labs and/or HIL test environments (power supplies, load equipment, data acquisition, instrumentation, etc.).
  • Familiarity with reading schematics/wiring diagrams and producing or updating controlled drawings and build documentation.
  • Experience with configuration control practices (labeling, revision tracking, setup baselines, and inventory management).
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware and test setup issues in partnership with engineers.

U.S. Citizenship required. This position may require an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
