ABOUT THE LUCAS MUSEUM OF NARRATIVE ART
Opening in September 2026, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is dedicated to illustrated storytelling.  Founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the museum’s collection features works by artists including Norman Rockwell, Kadir Nelson, Jessie Willcox Smith, N. C. Wyeth, Beatrix Potter, Judith F. Baca, Frida Kahlo, and Maxfield Parrish; as well as comic art legends such as Winsor McCay, Jack Kirby, Frank Frazetta, Alison Bechdel, Chris Ware, and R. Crumb; and photographers Gordon Parks, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Dorothea Lange. The Museum also houses the Lucas Archives, containing models, props, concept art, and costumes from Lucas’s filmmaking career. 
 
Designed by Ma Yansong of MAD with a landscape by Mia Lehrer of Studio-MLA, the Museum is in Exposition Park, Los Angeles, on an 11-acre campus that includes new green space and a 300,000-square-foot building with galleries, two theaters, a library, restaurant, café, retail store, and community spaces.  
 
POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for a results-driven E-Commerce Merchandiser to join the Lucas Museum’s Retail team. Reporting to the E-Commerce Manager, the Merchandiser will support e-commerce operations and strategy in support of the opening and ongoing operations of the Museum’s online retail store. This will include monitoring the online store, optimizing sales funnels, and working closely with various departments under the Revenue & Engagement portfolio to ensure an exceptional online shopping experience. 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the day-to-day operation of the online store, including product setup, product updates, pricing, merchandising, collections, inventory-related updates, and website content management within Shopify. 

  • Upload and maintain product imagery, product information, collections, tags, merchandising attributes, and promotional assets to ensure an accurate and engaging online shopping experience. 

  • Execute updates to online store, including product launches, promotional changes, and campaign-related merchandising updates according to established timelines and business requirements. 

  • Utilize Airtable and other project management tools to review assigned work, track progress, and support the timely execution of merchandising and content updates. 

  • Monitor online store functionality, merchandising accuracy, and customer-facing experiences; perform quality assurance testing of products, collections, content updates, and site enhancements prior to publication and identify issues requiring resolution. 

  • Track product performance, inventory availability, and sales trends, and support ongoing ecommerce operations by maintaining accurate product data, monitoring site health, and recommending improvements to merchandising execution.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, up to 8 hours per shift.  

  • Ability to move throughout multiple Museum locations, including galleries, theaters, outdoor spaces, and other public areas.

  • Ability to work in a high-volume, public-facing environment with large groups of guests, including school groups, tours, special events, and peak attendance periods, while maintaining professionalism, situational awareness, and composure.  

  • Ability to frequently bend, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb stairs as needed.  

  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 25 pounds, including wheelchairs, stanchions, signage, guest service equipment, and other operational materials.  

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with guests and colleagues in person, by telephone, and over two-way radio.  

  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions.  

  • Ability to maintain awareness of guest activity and surrounding conditions while monitoring galleries, queues, and public spaces.  

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School or GED equivalent is required 

  • 1-3 years of experience in e-commerce or digital marketing role, preferably for an arts & cultural institution or prominent consumer brand preferred 

  • Proficient in MS Excel is required; experience using V-Look-up is a plus 

  • Strong understanding of online sales platforms and digital marketing strategies 

  • Expertise in digital marketing techniques, including SEO, SEM, and social media marketing 

  • Proficient in web analytics tools and e-commerce tracking tools 

  • Knowledge of UX/UI principles and how they impact online sales 

  • Familiarity with Shopify is a plus 

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to a fast-paced, evolving industry 

  • Solid communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously 

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to derive actionable insights from data 

  • Familiarity with e-commerce trends
