Job description

RaceTrac Company Overview
Job Description:
The Content Developer is the production and craft lead within the L&D team. This role is accountable for translating approved instructional designs, storyboards, and learning blueprints into finished, high-quality training content - eLearning modules, video, job aids, facilitator guides, assessments, and other learning materials that reach RaceTrac's frontline retail workforce.
Where the Instructional Designer determines what learning needs to happen and why, the Content Developer determines how it gets built - making decisions about visual design, interactivity, pacing, multimedia production, and technical execution that bring the instructional vision to life. This role requires both technical craft and creative judgment, and a deep commitment to consistency, quality, and the learner experience.
What You'll Do:
Content Production & Digital Learning Development
  • Build polished, production-ready eLearning modules, microlearning assets, video content, and interactive digital experiences using approved authoring tools (Articulate Storyline, Rise) and multimedia platforms.
  • Develop a full range of training materials including facilitator guides, participant workbooks, quick-reference job aids, assessments, and knowledge checks - consistent with the design direction provided by the Instructional Designer.
  • Apply strong visual design principles to all learning materials - using layout, typography, color, imagery, and motion to enhance clarity, engagement, and brand alignment.
  • Produce and edit instructional video content including scripted recordings, screen captures, and on-camera footage using tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro.

Brand Standards & Instructional Quality
  • Maintain strict consistency in RaceTrac's learning brand voice, visual identity, and instructional quality standards across all content produced.
  • Conduct thorough self-review and editing of all materials before submission - ensuring content is grammatically correct, visually clean, instructionally sound, and free of errors.
  • Adhere to accessibility standards for digital learning content, ensuring materials are usable by learners with varying abilities and backgrounds.

LMS Management & Content Lifecycle
  • Manage content through its full lifecycle within the Learning Management System (LMS) - including uploading, publishing, versioning, and archiving.
  • Maintain RaceTrac's content maturity matrix, tracking the status, review schedule, and lifecycle stage of all training materials in the portfolio.
  • Monitor learning analytics and completion data, flagging engagement issues or content performance concerns to the Instructional Designer for review.

SME Collaboration & Project Execution
  • Work closely with Instructional Designers and SMEs throughout the production process - asking clarifying questions, incorporating review feedback efficiently, and managing revision cycles on time.
  • Manage content development project tasks within established timelines, communicating status proactively and escalating scope changes or blockers promptly.
  • Assist in the coordination and facilitation of SME review sessions, managing feedback logs and revision tracking.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement
  • Stay current on emerging content development tools, techniques, and trends - including AI-assisted content development, gamification, and mobile-first design principles.
  • Contribute recommendations for improving production workflows, templates, and toolsets to increase quality and efficiency across the L&D team.
  • Proactively update and enhance existing training materials based on learner feedback, performance data, and program changes.

What We're Looking For:
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Graphic Design, Educational Technology, Communications, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in digital learning content development, eLearning production, or a related creative/technical field - not entry level.
  • Advanced proficiency in Articulate 360 (Storyline and Rise) - demonstrated ability to build interactive eLearning from storyboards with minimal rework.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite - specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro for visual design and video production.
  • Strong visual design instincts: understanding of layout, typography, color theory, and how design choices affect learner comprehension and engagement.
  • Experience managing content within a Learning Management System (LMS) - uploading, publishing, testing, and troubleshooting SCORM/xAPI content.
  • Exceptional attention to detail in editing, proofreading, and visual quality review - content leaving this role should be polished and error-free.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent production projects, hit deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and communicate proactively about status and blockers.
  • Experience developing content for diverse audiences with varying educational backgrounds and levels of technical comfort.

Preferred
  • Experience in retail, convenience, or frontline workforce training environments.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) for digital learning content and experience applying them in practice.
  • Understanding of mobile learning design principles and experience optimizing content for mobile delivery.
