Summary of Responsibility:

The Assistant Controller is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with accounting principles and regulations. This role will prepare month end close, Oversee Commissions and Sales Tax fillings, detailed financial analysis, assist in budget preparation, Intercompany elimination, and support audits. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under tight deadlines are essential for success in this position.

This position is fully onsite in our corporate office, located in Windsor, CT

What You Will Contribute:

  • Serve as a key member of the Shared Service team which supports multiple locations across Morris Tower Division of Morris Group.

  • As an Assistant Controller, you will be a key resource in the Shared Service team that uses your accounting ability to align and adhere to Morris Group policies, accounting standards, and US GAAP.

  • Drive continuous improvement efforts. Streamline, standardize, and document month-end close processes by applying best in class practices.

  • Perform as a key contributor to the monthly closing process. Prepare and maintain proper support and audit trail for all journal entries, all account reconciliations, and financial statements.

  • Assist in the production of monthly flux analysis and monthly financial reports; ensure that the reported results align with US GAAP and Morris Group financial reporting standards.

  • Support business processes by partnering with other departments, including but not limited to Operations, Contracts’ Administration, Transactional groups, and others to ensure the quality, accuracy, and consistency of the financial data reported in the general ledger for assigned entities.

  • Assist in the annual audits and review internal controls for adequacy. Provide recommendations and facilitate root cause and corrective action planning for defective controls.

  • Prepare daily, weekly & monthly reports for various functions and groups.

  • Oversee Sales Tax Returns and assist with Sales Tax Audits.

  • Oversee Commission statements

  • Manage the AP and GL Department

  • Responsible for reconciling all company assets, including fixed assets, prepaid expenses, Right of Use for operating leases, and other asset categories, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Bachelors’ Degree or equivalent experience in Accounting or Finance required. CPA or Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.

  • 10+ years of accounting experience, distribution experience a plus and 2+ years with Senior level experience preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills: proven ability to communicate effectively with internal and external business partners at various levels in a clear and concise manner.

  • Attention to details and strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Sophisticated Microsoft Excel skills (Vlookup and Pivot Table a must) coupled with the ability to develop automated processes and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Understanding and application of cost accounting principles.
