Job description

Overview
The Department of Public Health invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, accreditation management, research, student advising, and service activities within MPH and DrPH programs. This position is designed for an individual with strengths and interests in public health education, health behavior and community health, and qualitative research methods.
Responsibilities
Teaching
Teaching responsibilities will include:
  • MPH courses primarily in health behavior and community health, but also biostatistics and/or epidemiology, depending on needs in consultation with the Chair.
  • DrPH courses in qualitative research methods, data sources, and statistical software.
  • Contributing to curriculum development, assessment, and continuous program improvement.

Accreditation and Program Administration
A major responsibility of this position will be managing and supporting activities related to Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation, including:
  • Coordinating accreditation documentation and reporting.
  • Assisting with annual assessment activities and continuous quality improvement processes.
  • Supporting preparation of self-study materials and accreditation reports.
  • Maintaining compliance with CEPH standards and reporting timelines.
  • Administrative responsibilities will also include assisting with program operations, scheduling, and departmental initiatives.

Research, Scholarship, and Service
The successful candidate will maintain an active program of scholarship and participate in institutional, professional, and community service activities. Responsibilities include:
  • Conducting and disseminating scholarly research.
  • Pursuing external funding opportunities where appropriate.
  • Participating in departmental, school, and university committees, especially our Public Health for All Committee that welcomes perspectives and involvement of individuals from a range of backgrounds.
  • Contributing to professional and community engagement activities.

Student Advising and Dissertation Mentorship
The faculty member will advise both MPH and DrPH students and will be expected to:
  • Serve as a DrPH dissertation chair and committee member.
  • Mentor doctoral students through applied research and professional development.
  • Support student academic progress and career planning.
  • Advise clinical MPH student such as MD/MPH and DPT/MPH.
  • Assist with MPH applied practice experience and DrPH internship programs.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Earned PhD, DrPH, MD, or equivalent terminal degree in public health or a closely related field.
  • Ability to teach at the graduate and doctoral levels.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with CEPH accreditation processes and reporting.
  • Experience developing or teaching courses in health behavior and community health.
  • Experience with governmental grants, Joint Commission reporting, or related compliance activities.

  • Proficiency with Stata and other statistical software packages.
