About the Role
The Dispatcher will dispatch, route, assign, and maintain routing schedules for drivers. Maintain positive relationships and communication with vendors and customers. Keep driver and warehouse up to date with schedule changes.
What you'll do:
  • Interact with customers both over the phone and in person.
  • Assign and route drivers, destinations, and timelines.
  • Dispatch and track drivers enroute.
  • Interact with drivers and customers to keep up-to-date information on routes/route changes and schedules.
  • Update shipment tracking system when needed and help maintain timely data integrity.
  • Process paperwork related to freight.
  • Assist in the warehouse and yard when needed.
  • Assist with the pickup and delivery of local freight if necessary.
  • Provide relief for receiving if necessary.
  • Assist with the loading and/or unloading of vehicles, trailers, or containers if necessary.
  • Move freight within yard or warehouse, using forklift or other equipment as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position is supervisory in nature as it provides daily work direction to drivers and serves as a time and attendance supervisor.
You have these skills:
  • Good communication skills are a necessity as the position has requires a certain amount of interaction with customers, vendors, contractors, and/or suppliers. Contacts are typically via telephone and walk-in pick-ups. Communication is occasionally confidential in nature.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.
  • Good verbal and written communication.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be able to read schedules, maps, hazardous materials documents, and other paperwork.
  • Must exercise good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to focus, prioritize, and organize.
  • Must be continuously conscientious of safety processes and procedures.
  • Ability to use radio and telephone.
  • Knowledge of dispatch helpful.
  • Knowledge of good lifting techniques.
  • Knowledge of warehouse safety.

And these qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum one year of relevant experience is required, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Hazardous Materials Certification, or ability to obtain
  • Forklift Certification, or ability to obtain
  • Class A or B CDL, preferred

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to push, pull, lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Must be able to operate all equipment related to dispatch which may include grasping, bending, handling, reaching, fingering, feeling/touching and repetitive motions of the hands and arms.
Work Environment:
Work is primarily performed in an office environment, however, it may also involve being outside in the elements or in a company vehicle. Exposures to exhaust fumes are likely. Overtime may be mandatory when needed. Conditions may also include exposure to environmental noise.
