Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Student Activities for Fraternity and Sorority Life provides strategic direction, leadership, and operational support to the University's fraternity and sorority community, while actively supporting broader departmental initiatives. This position blends specialized advising and risk management for national and local fraternities and sororities, along with general student activities duties, including student organization advisement, student center building operations/event support, and the supervision of student event technicians. Serving as a vital mentor and educator, the Assistant Director fosters a vibrant, inclusive, and safe, campus life experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- 1 - 3 years of related experience
Essential Functions:
Fraternity and Sorority Life Advising, Leadership Development, and Community Engagement
- Serves as the primary advisor to Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) governing councils, including the Interfraternity Council (IFC) and Panhellenic Council (NPC). Provides expert mentorship and guidance to chapter leaders, executive boards, alumni, and faculty advisors related to organizational development, strategic planning, philanthropic efforts, communications, and values alignment.
- Develops and implements leadership development opportunities, including workshops, retreats, and ongoing training focused on values-based leadership, officer transitions, group dynamics, conflict resolution, risk management, hazing prevention, alcohol and other drug education, and other initiatives supporting fraternity and sorority life.
- Oversees planning, logistics, and policy compliance for recruitment, membership intake, and chapter events. Guides students through risk mitigation protocols, event planning logistics, and compliance with University policies for recruitment activities, formals, conferences, philanthropic events, and other chapter programming.
- Collaborates with the Office of Community Standards and campus partners to address behavioral concerns, support adjudication processes, coordinate standards board training, and maintain chapter expectations through the Standards of Excellence policy and procedure framework.
- Administers community standards and chapter accreditation programs, maintaining accurate records related to membership rosters, academic reports, event participation, and organizational outcomes. Designs and analyzes assessment tools, including surveys, focus groups, and annual chapter reviews, to evaluate student learning outcomes and inform continuous improvement.
- Serves as the primary liaison to inter/national headquarters staff, chapter advisors, alumni, parents, and campus partners to foster effective communication and collaboration.
Student Center Operations and Event Support
- Oversees daily operations, safety protocols, and student staffing for the student center/activities building, ensuring a welcoming, safe, and functional environment.
- Assists with recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising student employees responsible for supporting campus events through audio, visual, lighting, and facility operations.
- Coordinates with campus facilities, catering, and technical services to support successful execution of student-run events, late-night programming, and other campus initiatives. Maintains familiarity with basic audio/visual equipment setup and student center operations.
Student Employee Supervision and Administrative Support
- Establishes weekly assignments for student staff, provides training and guidance, and evaluates student employee performance and development
- Conducts regular facility inspections to ensure appropriate customer service, safety standards, and policy compliance. Reports facility concerns, equipment issues, and purchasing needs to the Director of Student Activities.
Campus Engagement and Division Support
- Builds positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and conference/event partners to support a collaborative campus environment.
- Participates in division-wide and campus-wide committees, supports institutional initiatives, and represents Student Affairs at special events
Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, Counseling, or a closely related field

- Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
- University pays 100% tuition only.
- Eligible dependents may be reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.
*Eligibility requirements including waiting periods and/or employee probationary periods may apply at the discretion of the University.
