Job description

Job Overview:

At Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, Assistant Director Clinical ensures that quality age-appropriate nursing care is delivered to all patients on his/her nursing unit in accordance with the philosophy, policies, procedures and program plans of the hospital. Assists with the development of patient care standards, orientation and continuing education. Evaluates staff performance in accordance with organizational policies. Maintains unit budget. Participates in nursing quality assurance. Maintains unit administration, including scheduling and maintaining of supplies and equipment. Use and understand the principles of growth and development to assess each patient’s age-specific needs and provide age-specific treatment and care. Ensure that [unit/department/division] is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations.

As an Assistant Director Clinical, a typical day may include:  

  • Develops/revises plan for patient care delivery in assigned areas.
  • Identifies and corrects actual/potential problems. Recommends/selects appropriate indicators to measure performance, communicates QA & findings as required.
  • Ensures the provision of Patient Family education
  • Integrates department’s services with the hospital’s primary functions, develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of clinical services.
  • Determines the qualifications and competence of department personnel who provide patient care services and who are not licensed independent practitioners.
  • Directs patient care in a manner which ensures that: Standards of patient care and regulatory agencies are met; the nursing process forms the basis for delivery of patient care, and that patients, significant others and associates are treated with dignity, respect and compassion.
  • Promotes staff effectiveness/competency through goal setting, role modeling and provision of learning opportunities
  • Participates in ongoing education (e.g., in-service, continuing education, etc.) to seek out and apply new professional and technical concepts, and seek additional certifications as appropriate.
  • When delegating or accepting a task, clarifies instructions, and arranges for appropriate resources and support.
  • Provides nursing administrative coverage as needed.
  • Ensures staffing levels meet patient requirements.
  • Adheres to requirements for review of corporation and facility manuals and demonstrates compliance with these and other policy directives.

To be considered for this Assistant Director Clinical opportunity, you must have 3–5 years' experience in IR or Special procedures, be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing, a bachelor’s degree in nursing, hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing, and have leadership experience. This position offers a full-time Monday through Friday schedule on the day shift and 37.5 weekly hours, allowing you to build strong patient relationships while maintaining balance.
