Job description

Position Summary
Acuren is currently recruiting an Assistant Controller who will oversee the day-to-day performance of activities of the Finance/Accounting Department. This is a key management position that will draw upon one's expertise in analyzing and validating complex data, completing detailed reports, and ensuring the integrity of systems and information.
Responsibilities
1) Reviewing and validating financial information by:
  • Reviewing general journal entries and validating with supporting documentation
  • Assessing compliance with internal controls and practices
  • Identifying anomalies and independently investigating and validating prior to posting
  • Resolving any discrepancies and providing documentation and/or explanation and resolution
  • Reconciling, resolving issues with, and reporting on alignment of sub-ledger accounts with the general ledger

2) Supporting effective financial decision making by:
  • Completing monthly reports and account reconciliations
  • Generating trial balances to identify errors and follow up with corrections
  • Ensuring reconciled items are cleared in a timely manner to support accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
  • Developing customized reports
  • Preparing draft financial statements and verifying against trial balance and other customized reports
  • Reviewing final financial statements for accuracy and completeness

3) Supporting and contributing to the success of the department by:
  • Validating appropriate practices, procedures and controls are in place to generate timely and accurate invoicing
  • Ensuring government filings are completed in a timely and efficient manner
  • Recommending continuous improvement to accounting processes and systems
  • Sharing expertise with less senior staff and supporting their ongoing development
  • Assisting with job-costing analysis, and other miscellaneous financial projects

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CA, CMA, CGA, CPA)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience in the industrial or commercial sector
