Position Title: Assistant Manager/Deli Manager
Reports To: Store Manager
Job Objective:
Under the direction or in the absence of the store manager, the assistant manager is responsible for carrying out the duties of the store manager. The assistant manager is responsible for the store appearance and store operation that reflect company standards and image. The assistant manager will direct the operation of the store in accordance with company policies and procedures to maximize store profits and have a significant impact on store operating expenses and sales volume. The assistant manager is also responsible for providing the foundation and guidance for employees to achieve maximum success and personal motivation. The Deli Manager is responsible for the overall management of the kitchen staff as well as preparing and/or directing the preparation of food to be served/produced while complying with all applicable sanitation, health, and personal hygiene standards and following established food production programs and procedures.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist Store Manager in overseeing daily operations and ensuring efficient store performance.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Assist in training new employees and monitor performance, providing coaching when needed.
  • Handle customer complaints, take prompt and appropriate action to resolve the problem, or determining when to escalate the problem to management.
  • Inform supervisor of equipment breakdown or adjustments required.
  • Handle cash management including opening, operating, and closing registers, preparing deposits, and reconciling cash drawers.
  • Maintain a clean and customer friendly environment inside and outside the store.
  • Protect store assets by being aware of security processes, checking ID's when appropriate, and being alert and aware of the behavior of people in the store.
  • Must be available to cover shifts as needed.
  • Oversee all food service areas and preparation in accordance with food safety standards.
  • Order and manage deli food/supply to maintain established pars.
  • Perform and record accurate monthly deli inventories.
  • Adhere to all City, County, and State regulations, policies, laws, and ordinances.
  • Maintain and develop Staples Enterprises, Inc's corporate image and reputation via ethical activities, confidentiality, and great customer service.
  • Continuous improvement through self-development and educational training and attend all training sessions required by law and the Company.

Qualifications of the Position:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Food service/retail experience preferred.
  • ServSafe certification required where applicable.
  • Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team or independently and establish work priorities is required.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Physically able to perform light to medium lifting (50 lbs.), pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, and walking.
  • Frequent use of hands to handle products, objects, tools, or controls and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Exposure to outside weather conditions and walk-in coolers and freezers frequently.
  • Ability to work with nuts and other allergens.
