Job description

UW Credit Union’s Finance Department is seeking a Data Analyst who is passionate about turning data into actionable insights that drive growth and innovation.

Our business is growing, and data is at the heart of every decision we make. As a Finance Data Analyst, you’ll play a critical role in shaping strategies that improve member experiences, streamline operations, and support our mission of financial empowerment.

**This position requires you to be onsite in Madison, WI working from the office 3 days per week. No relocation assistance will be provided.**


Solution Development

  • Proficiency in using advanced data analysis and visualization tools, ability to integrate data insights into business processes. Participate in the creation of new frameworks and data driven solutions.
  • Ability to work with complex data sets, identify trends and patterns, and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Understands JOIN and aggregates in SQL. Able to build basic data pipelines using dbt. Creates complex visualizations in Tableau.
  • Validate all work through reasonability checks, comparisons to historical results and benchmarks, end user validation processes, and other processes established by the team.
  • Complete all documentation of data structures, measures, metadata, assumptions, models, reports and analyses, client-focused training materials, and other documentation as required.
  • Provide peer review of colleagues' coding, results, analyses, and other deliverables.
  • Maintain and update existing reports and tools based on changes in strategic priorities, the external environment, underlying software, data structure changes or end-use workflows.

Project Coordination / Business Analysis

  • Collaborates with business partners to define problems and suggests initial data-driven solutions.
  • Thorough understanding of the business domain. Ability to take business problems and identify impactful ways to address them using data.
  • Work with business units to understand data needs, refine Use Case criteria, identify appropriate data sources and profile data to ensure appropriateness.
  • Provide relevant and appropriate consultation to analytics clients including oral and written presentations at meetings or to leadership.
  • Proactively develop and maintain working knowledge of organizational structure, core leaders, decision makers, relationships with other areas and the market. Apply knowledge of organization to help optimize the efficiency and success of client engagements.
  • Forecast workload volume to ensure availability to meet demands and establish priority guidelines and negotiate timelines with partners.

Personal Development

  • Actively collaborates with colleagues by contributing experience and insight. Leads knowledge-sharing sessions with junior analysts.
  • Build relationships with peers, such as domain experts, to better understand the business mechanics that generated the data.
  • Display drive and curiosity to understand business process to its core.
  • Remain current on advancements in analytic technologies.

Other Duties

  • Provide business partners and staff with technical assistance for business intelligence tools.
  • Participate in new vendor evaluations.
  • Ensure active usage of vendor provided resources, including technical support, education, compliance, reporting, and user groups.
  • Maintain professional rapport with vendor contacts to facilitate progress with problem resolution and new product enhancements.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, business or related field required or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-3 years of data analysis or analytics experience in two or more of the following required:
    • Code development using SQL
    • Performance measure development
    • Organization, analysis, and modeling of multiple data sources
    • Development of data visualizations, dashboards, KPI’s, etc.
    • Tableau development
  • 2-3 years of experience with hands on database querying experience required.
  • Experience in financial services industry preferred.
