Reports To: Production Supervisor FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Pay Band: 6 Wage Range: $18.48-$25.00
Shift: 12HR Nights; 7p-7a - Purple Shift Differential: $2.00
Job Summary:
A Folder Operator is responsible for directing all folder and direct cutting operations from pre-postproduction stages. A Folder Operator is the contact person for production related issues on the folders in Finishing and Direct Mail. A Folder Operator is responsible for training employees on folder and direct cutting operations to ensure equipment is operating effectively.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Set up, operate and maintain the Ehret Sheeting and bander, provide work direction and assistance to other Folder Operators with difficult troubleshooting on the folders and all in-line equipment and educate the operators. This includes knowledge of ink jet print systems.
  • Demonstrate leadership in working with roll tenders, inserter operators, temps and other operators.
  • Set up the machine in the correct manner and have the job lined up and measured according to job ticket, layout and sign-off.
  • Perform job sample checks and job oks.
  • Complete sort station and hand/battery lift training.
  • Communicate job status, special instructions, and checklists for equipment condition.
  • Run the machine through cross-over whenever you come into a machine that has been running.
  • Attend and participate in the monthly cost center meetings.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) tasks to maintain optimal equipment performance.
  • Follow all Nahan safety and quality standards.
  • Work assigned shifts, including weekends and overtime, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot basic machine malfunctions.
  • Attention to detail and ability to identify quality defects.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders and technical specifications.
  • Strong Computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal and listening).
  • Excellent time management skills and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency/fluent with English language, both written and verbal.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous related experience preferred
  • On-the-job training provided

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee may be required to stand for long periods of time as well as use hands or fingers to reach or handle, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee will regularly lift 70lbs or more at a time. All vision abilities are required to encompass close-up work. Employees must be able to tolerate and endure extended seasonal hours and maintain alertness to meet deadlines.
Occasionally while performing duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to machinery and moving parts, airborne particles including paper dust and hazardous materials or fumes, which may require the use of PPE. The employee may be exposed to adverse weather conditions, extended seasonal hours, high precarious places, and confined spaces. The nose level in some of the work environments may require the use of hearing protection.
