Job description

Tri-Township Jr-Sr High School is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Varsity Boys Cross Country Coach to lead and grow our high school boys cross country program. This position is focused on building a competitive team culture that emphasizes effort, discipline, sportsmanship, and personal growth. The ideal candidate will have experience in distance running and a passion for supporting student-athletes in both their athletic and academic development.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and lead practices that develop athletes’ endurance, technique, and racing strategies.
  • Identify and nurture individual student-athlete strengths to support overall team success.
  • Promote a culture of hard work, accountability, and team unity.
  • Prepare athletes physically and mentally for meets through conditioning, pacing strategies, and course preparation.
  • Collaborate with assistant coaches, athletic staff, and administration to manage schedules, transportation, equipment, and facilities.
  • Monitor academic progress and serve as a mentor to student-athletes.
  • Ensure safety during all training and competition activities by teaching proper technique and adhering to health and safety protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, families, and school personnel regarding expectations, schedules, and team progress.


Qualifications:
  • Previous coaching experience, preferably at the high school level.
  • Strong knowledge of cross country training methods, race strategies, and IHSAA rules.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with and motivate diverse groups of student-athletes.


Requirements:
  • Must pass a background check in accordance with school district policies.
  • Availability for practices, meets, and related events.
  • Commitment to supporting the values and expectations of Tri-Township Schools and the IHSAA.


Compensation:

Stipend based on the teacher’s master contract.
