The White Mountain Hotel & Resort is an award-winning AAA Four Diamond boutique resort located in the heart of New Hampshire's White Mountains. We pride ourselves on delivering genuine hospitality, exceptional guest experiences, and an outstanding workplace culture. We are seeking an experienced Controller to join our leadership team and help guide the financial success of our growing resort.
This is an executive-level leadership position reporting directly to the General Manager and serving as a key strategic partner in the operation of the resort.
Position Summary
The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, internal controls, payroll oversight, insurance administration, and human resources functions for the resort. This individual ensures financial integrity while helping department leaders make informed business decisions that improve profitability, efficiency, and guest satisfaction.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, highly organized, ethical, and enjoys working in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Financial Leadership
  • Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure timely month-end and year-end close.
  • Develop annual operating and capital budgets with department leaders.
  • Produce forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial analyses.
  • Monitor departmental performance against budget and recommend improvements.
  • Present financial results to ownership and executive leadership.
  • Manage fixed assets and depreciation schedules.
  • Coordinate annual audits and tax preparation with outside CPA firms.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.

Internal Controls & Risk Management
  • Maintain strong internal controls and financial safeguards.
  • Monitor cash handling procedures throughout the property.
  • Develop procedures that reduce financial risk and improve accountability.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Human Resources
  • Maintain personnel files and HR records.
  • Administer employee benefits programs.
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and company policies.
  • Coordinate workers' compensation claims.

Insurance Administration
  • Manage all property, liability, workers' compensation, and other insurance policies.
  • Coordinate annual insurance renewals.
  • Handle insurance claims and documentation.
  • Work with brokers to ensure appropriate coverage and competitive pricing.
  • Assist with risk management initiatives across the property.

Leadership
  • Serve as a member of the resort's Executive Leadership Team.
  • Build collaborative relationships with all department leaders.
  • Support a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide financial education and guidance to managers throughout the resort.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Hospitality accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous Controller or Assistant Controller experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
  • Experience with payroll and human resources administration.
  • Knowledge of insurance administration and risk management.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with hotel property management and accounting systems is preferred.
