Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join their accounting team and play a key role in supporting the Vice President & Controller. This position will help oversee the accounting function and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting across a multi-entity, multi-division environment.


This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional who combines strong technical accounting expertise with leadership skills and a continuous-improvement mindset. The Assistant Controller will be highly involved in the monthly close, financial reporting, account reconciliations, job cost accounting, internal controls, financial analysis, and supporting accounting staff.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with monthly financial reporting packages
  • Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Support external and internal audits, as well as tax-related requests.
  • Help ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate accounting processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and controls.
  • Partner with the Controller in managing the accounting department.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to staff accountants and other accounting personnel.
  • Assist with workload prioritization and departmental initiatives.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience in construction, real estate development, or homebuilding strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a multi-entity or multi-division accounting environment preferred.
  • Prior supervisory or accounting team leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with ERP and accounting systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • High degree of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
