Job description

  • The Counter Sales Representative serves as the front-line commercial interface between the company and walk-in contractors, technicians, and trade customers.

  • This role is responsible for executing daily counter transactions, providing technical product guidance, processing sales orders accurately, and supporting branch revenue growth while protecting margin integrity.

  • This is not a passive cashier role.

  • It is a revenue-generating, relationship-building position within a fast-paced HVAC distribution environment.

Core Responsibilities

1. Sales & Customer Service

  • Assist contractors and technicians with parts and equipment selection

  • Recommend alternative or upsell products when appropriate

  • Prepare and process sales orders in ERP system (cash and account sales)

  • Provide pricing, availability, and lead time information

  • Maintain professional counter presence and service discipline

  • 2. Technical Support (Basic Level)

  • Identify HVAC components (motors, capacitors, contactors, compressors, thermostats, mini-splits, etc.)

  • Read model numbers and cross-reference parts

  • Interpret basic product specifications and compatibility

3. Order & System Processing

  • Create sales orders, invoices, and credit memos

  • Verify customer account status and credit limits

  • Coordinate with warehouse for accurate order picking

  • Ensure correct tax treatment and payment processing

4. Inventory & Operational Control

  • Monitor fast-moving SKUs

  • Report stock discrepancies

  • Assist with cycle counts as needed

  • Maintain organized counter area and product displays

5. Relationship Development

  • Build loyalty with repeat contractors

  • Maintain professional rapport

  • Escalate large opportunities to branch manager or outside sales
