Job description

This is an ongoing posting to recruit temporary assistant coaches for the sports offered by Elmhurst University's athletic program. Positions are temporary and seasonal, and openings may become available at various times throughout the year. These positions assist a sport's head coach with day-to-day operations of the program. Qualified applicants understand the mission of the NCAA, Division III athletics, and the role of an athletic department in creating a positive environment for student-athletes.

Position Status: Exempt

Salary Range: Temporary part-time assistant coaches are paid approximately $2,000 - $7,000 as a stipend per season, and may be rehired to work during future seasons. The actual stipend offered will depend on a candidate's experience and education, length of applicable season including any pre-season and post-season work, required time commitment during the applicable season, and departmental budget.

Responsibilities
  • Assists the head coach in the organization and operation of an effective and competitive sport program.
  • Supports the head coach in the coordination of recruiting student-athletes.
  • Attends all pre-season conditioning and non-traditional season practices for the sport.
  • Attends and participates in all team planning sessions with coaching staff.
  • Aids in the planning, organization, and execution of all in-season practice sessions for the sport.
  • Conducts coaching during intercollegiate contests as set and assigned by the head coach.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of Elmhurst University, NCAA, and CCIW rules and regulations.
  • Adheres to NCAA Compliance Regulations.

Other Responsibilities

  • Understands and supports the mission, vision, and values of Elmhurst University.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Organization skills and self-motivation.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position are primarily performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor facilities, with regular exposure to varying weather conditions, including extended periods of extreme heat and cold. Work requires frequent districtwide, statewide, and out-of-state travel for recruiting or attending athletic competitions. Required abilities include walking, navigating uneven or slippery surfaces, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods; may require lifting and transporting equipment in excess of 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally; and using fine motor skills to operate and maneuver a range of athletic or training equipment. Qualified applicants who can perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodations will be considered.
