POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the General direction of the Head Gymnastics Coach, the Assistant Coach will be responsible for developing youth athletes in all aspects of assigned sport including mental, psychological and physical development. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Instructs a group of youth participants in accordance with YMCA guidelines and having prepared practice plans accordingly; while maintaining constant surveillance of all program participants emphasizing the importance of safety.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with participants and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  • Provides positive, encouraging and specific feedback on a regular basis with regard to technique.
  • Uses teachable moments to discuss character development and provides constructive feedback during practice session using positive motivation techniques.
  • Communicates information to parents in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Attends meetings, clinics, banquets, fundraisers, team social functions and events as required and needed.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Utilize equipment appropriately with activities and incorporate skill development. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Clean up area after each session. Reports damaged equipment.
  • Keeps Head Coach appraised of situations requiring their attention.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current certification in instruction for Gymnastics or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years prior experience in Gymnastics coaching.
  • Certifications: CPR, AED, First Aid.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to remain alert.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
  • Ability to continuously scan all areas with clear vision.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary.
  • Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
  • Must be able to lift and move gymnastics equipment.
