Stantec has a leadership opportunity in our Atlanta, Georgia office to join our multi-disciplinary team and help manage Stantec's services in the Atlanta area in the heavy civil/water resources market and collaborate with teams across the southeast. This role will work closely with the Business Center Leadership Team to promote growth in Atlanta and surrounding markets and maintain hands-on technical roles for various projects. The right candidate will have experience or abilities for managing and executing a variety of Water/Civil/Geotechnical projects, staff recruitment and development, managing a multi-discipline team, and business development.
As a Senior Civil Engineer in Stantec's Water Business Line, your role is to work on and lead projects both small and large, leading and supervising a team to execute the work. You will perform a variety of tasks related to civil engineering in support of dams, flood protection, power, water resources, and water infrastructure projects including oversight and ownership of design, analysis, and documentation, client interaction, and staff coordination. Additionally, you serve as a leader for the Atlanta Office to help recruit, onboard, mentor, supervise, and train staff to assist the business line with building and leading the team in Atlanta and the Southeast Region.
In this role you will have the opportunity to lead with the full capabilities of a worldwide engineering firm that can provide anything a client in our region would request. This role will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to expand their engineering knowledge, grow into different sectors, lead business development efforts, and get involved with teams around the country working on interesting and innovative projects that directly influence the communities we live in.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Working with the Business Center Leadership Team to identify top priorities, key pursuits, and goals for the Atlanta office and team, and working collaboratively to achieve those goals.
  • Developing and maintaining a strong culture in the Atlanta office, consistent with Stantec's overall mission and objectives and in alignment with Southeast Region goals.
  • Contributing to multiple heavy civil projects simultaneously (CCR landfills, dams, levees, industrial site development, etc.), whether in managerial, technical, or support roles.
  • Assisting in developing project scope, budgets, and design for various sized projects, supporting marketing and business development professionals in positioning for potential projects, writing technical portions of proposals, participating in client interviews, and supporting negotiations for project contracts.
  • Growing internal and external networks to enhance Stantec's reputation and identifying additional talent to join our team, specifically in the Atlanta area.
  • Recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding staff across key water disciplines and spanning experience levels to develop a well-rounded team, specifically in the Atlanta area.
  • Providing mentoring, training, supervision and leadership for junior staff.
  • Promoting collaboration and teamwork within the Southeast Region offices and across business lines and geographies, connecting the Atlanta office to the broader Stantec network.
  • Serving as Engineer-of-Record on projects.
  • Working in a manner to protect the health and safety of Stantec employees, clients, and the public by following company health, safety and security guidelines and policies.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to work with, and contribute to, a larger team. Previous leadership or people management experience, including project-related work, is highly desirable.
  • Effective communicator and able to work on and lead teams.
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships with clients.
  • Understanding of client expectations, budgeting, proposal writing, and producing high quality deliverables.

  • Technical expertise in many relevant areas of design and understanding of various design and construction methods, preferably in heavy civil and large earthwork projects (dams, levees, landfills, industrial sites, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of civil systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Requires an understanding of Microsoft Office, as well as relevant discipline software programs, which may include HEC products (RAS, HMS, etc.), GeoStudio, FLAC, Plaxis, AutoCAD Civil3D, PCSWMMM, HydroCAD, or other software.
  • Ability to travel 10-20% of the time. Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or similar required.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in at least one jurisdiction with the ability to obtain reciprocity in others, as needed.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience.
