The City of Surprise Public Works Department seeks a highly-motivated, civil engineering principals-oriented
Civil Engineer-Senior to seize this opportunity to join its team in support of the Engineering Development Review division.
This division staffs the City's engineering development review TEAM and works collaboratively with other city departments, residents and the development community to ensure that the City of Surprise grows safely and efficiently for the benefit of its residents and businesses. A successful candidate will have the opportunity to demonstrate excellence in general civil engineering design, with a strong emphasis on drainage analysis, drainage report review, and stormwater management principles, along with solid organizational skills. The ideal candidate will be able to effectively and responsively communicate the Public Works Department's requirements, particularly as they relate to drainage compliance, flood mitigation, and infrastructure protection, in a positive and professional manner. SUMMARY
Under general supervision, incumbent performs development reviews of various complex developments and Capital Improvement projects that involve coordination among multiple departments or agencies; exhibit technical expertise in areas of responsibility; coordinates the work of professional and technical staff; assist in mentoring and training, and performing related work as assigned. Incumbents develop solutions, interpret policies and procedures, and have the authority to approve and stamp engineering plans.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and four (4) years of professional civil engineering experience, with a minimum of three (3) years design/review experience in land development projects or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Additional education cannot be substituted for experience.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have at time of hire and be able to maintain a State of Arizona Professional Civil Engineer license (PE) or an equivalency through state reciprocity.
Must have at time of hire and be able to maintain a valid Arizona Driver License.
For positions in Public Works: Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification preferred.
