Job description

POSITION PURPOSE
St. Michael Catholic Church in Snohomish, WA is seeking a part time Music & Choir Director. The Director is responsible for coordinating all the liturgical music in the parish, including recruitment of singers and musicians, organizing choir groups, planning and providing music for weekend masses and Holy Day liturgies throughout the year. The applicant must be familiar with the Roman Catholic order of the Mass and be comfortable with various styles of music for the various masses, ranging from praise and worship to antiphons and chant.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Coordinates the development and implementation of a music program for the Saturday Vigil and Sunday English Mass, including directing the choir. Recruits, trains, and supports choir members and musicians. Makes music selections in collaboration with the pastoral leader, presider and other staff as appropriate. Schedules rehearsals and assures that the accompanists and music are available.
B. Oversees the music program at St. Michael. Selects and develops participation aids for the assembly to encourage full and active participation through singing. Seeks out opportunities to create additional musical programs and liturgies for the community.
C. Provides assistance for parishioners needing music for special services, such as weddings, quinceañeras and funerals.
D. Develops and maintains resource list for organists, soloists, and other musicians available to perform at these functions.
E. Ensures appropriate copyright permissions, use fees and licenses have been obtained for all material used in the music program.
F. Maintains a level of knowledge and skills required for the ministry. This is done by reading appropriate materials and attending workshops and conventions.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
1. Pleasant and inviting voice.
2. Ability to read music.
3. Knowledge of the Roman Catholic order of the Mass and be comfortable with various styles of music.
4. Excellent diction and intonation.
5. Experience directing a choir.
6. Ability to play piano (preferred).
Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
