What is an assistant cemetery?

Assistant Cemetery workers are professionals who support the daily operations and maintenance of cemeteries. Their duties often include groundskeeping, assisting with burials, maintaining gravesites, helping visitors locate graves, and ensuring the grounds are clean and presentable. They may also assist with administrative tasks, such as record-keeping and scheduling services. This role is important for maintaining the dignity and appearance of the cemetery while providing support to grieving families and visitors.

For generations, families in Ottawa have relied on neighbors helping neighbors during life's most difficult moments. At Dengel & Son Mortuary, that tradition has continued since 1947, and today we are looking for Support Staff who share a genuine desire to serve their community with care, professionalism, and respect.

  • Ability to perform the physical aspects of the role with assistance as needed
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends on a rotating basis
  • Professional appearance and respectful demeanor at all time
