WORK OBJECTIVE $$$ SIGN-ON BONUS - $10,000.00 $$$ ** If hired, candidate will receive a $10,000.00 bonus split up as followed: -$5,000.00 after successful completion of the initial 90-day period - $5,000.00 after obtaining a satisfactory rating on the first annual performance evaluation The Assistant Building Official assists in the enforcement and application of the Florida Building Code (FBC) and applicable City Ordinances, as they pertain to permit issuance, plan review and construction inspections. They assist in the enforcement of applicable State Statutes relevant to Project Designers and Construction Contractors and assist in the administration of Policy and Procedures for Building Services Division staff members. Their work is reviewed in conferences with the employees, by direct observation of results achieved, and through review of reports and records

To view full job description, please click on the job title: Assistant Building Official MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Engineering, Architecture; supplemented by seven (7) to ten (10) years progressively experience as an electrical contractor, general contractor, mechanical contractor, or plumbing contractor with five (5) years' construction experience in High Velocity Hurricane Zones (HVHZ), including at least three (3) years of supervisory or management experience; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience. Must be certified by the State of Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAIB) as a Building Code Administrator. Required certifications must be kept current.

Must possess or be able to obtain certification as a Building Official by Broward County Board of Rules an Appeals (BORA) within ninety (90) days of hire. Preference be given to candidates with a Structural Plans Examiner and/or Structural Inspector license and demonstrated expertise in structural engineering principles, structural plan review, and structural inspections. Must have National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification (level to be determined by job classification requirements), or obtain within one year of employment.

Must be a certified general contractor, building official, and Floodplain Manager. Must have a valid Florida driver's license with satisfactory driving record throughout employment. In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions to perform this job successfully.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION In order to move on to the next phase of the application screening process, you must attach proof of education. Applicants who demonstrate they meet the minimum requirements may be subject to an extensive selection process and screening program, which may include, but not be limited to, evaluation of training and experience background investigation; medical evaluation; controlled substance screen. Applicants are required to sign an affidavit for non-use of tobacco products in order to be considered for employment.
