Duties * You will plan, prepare, produce, and publish a broad range of U.S. Navy historical knowledge products for distribution in print and digital formats. * You will advise the command on writing and editing standards, product design standards and processes, web development and design standards, DOD and Navy printing and publishing regulations, and industry practices. * You will conduct substantive editing, rewriting, and restructuring complex documents to organize, balance, and complete deficient materials to meet publishing objectives. * You will perform independent research to verify accuracy of sources and facts within written products. * You will work closely with authors or other content providers to discuss recommended changes in subject matter treatment, obtain information for revisions, and reconcile differences of opinion. * You will use desktop publishing software throughout the editorial and review process to ensure that each review and corrections phase is completed efficiently. Qualifications GS-12 LEVEL I have one year of specialized experience performing work that includes writing and editing materials for publication that is equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate performing duties such as the following: * Writing and editing a wide range of materials to ensure clarity, coherence, and accuracy for diverse audiences; * Managing the complete book publishing production process, from initial concept to final distribution in both print and digital formats; * Directing the revision and rewriting of complex documents, ensuring adherence to organizational style, editorial, and production guidelines; * Ensuring meticulous attention to detail by conducting independent research to verify facts, checking the accuracy of sources, and proofreading materials to produce error-free publications; * Providing leadership and guidance to junior staff and other team members on writing and editing standards, publication processes, and industry best practices to ensure the development of high-quality products; and * Managing website content by developing, maintaining, and updating information across command properties, ensuring the currency, accuracy, and usability of the content presentation. GS-11 LEVEL I have one year of specialized experience performing work that includes writing and editing materials for publication that is equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate performing duties such as the following: * Writing and editing a wide range of materials to ensure clarity, coherence, and accuracy for diverse audiences; * Assisting with the book publishing production process, from initial concept to final distribution in both print and digital formats; * Applying expert knowledge of grammar and style, including copyediting and substantive editing, to revise and rewrite complex documents; * Ensuring meticulous attention to detail by conducting independent research to verify facts, checking the accuracy of sources, and proofreading materials to produce error-free publications; and * Utilizing technical proficiency with desktop publishing software and content management systems to assist in the development and maintenance of web content Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management web site: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).
