Job description

Position Summary

The successful Safety Coordinator will implement CECs safety programs by conducting daily field walks, taking care of regulatory compliance and audit oversight, and developing project specific corrective action plans to address safety issues and concerns. This individual will be responsible for coaching and mentoring employees to help facilitate safe behaviors and an overall safety culture at project sites. This is a safety sensitive position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist and coach Crew Foreman/General Foremen in completing daily Operational Risk Management (ORM) boards and the development of Job Hazard Analyses.  Safety Coordinator will photo-document the completed ORM board daily.
  • Ability to work day and/or night shifts, overtime, and weekends dependent upon project schedule.
  • Submit Site Safety Audit reports daily, recording their findings including any hazards or deficiencies observed, corrective actions taken by management, and supported by attachments and photographs.
  • Interact regularly with field personnel and site supervision to address safety observations and provide feedback for resolution.
  • Assist with delivery of job site-specific safety orientations for new employees joining the project, as applicable.
  • Assisting site supervision in completion of incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Perform periodic audits of power tools and equipment (i.e., scissor lifts, forklifts, fall protection, laser levelers, etc.) to ensure equipment is being maintained in good working order, as applicable.
  • Subcontractor compliance with applicable rules and regulations, and project safety requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.
Qualifications
  • Degree or extensive training in environmental health and safety discipline a plus
  • 1 - 3 years in construction safety experience (electrical, mechanical safety experience preferred)
  • OSHA 30 Construction required; OSHA 510/511 preferred
Skills & Abilities
  • Understanding of electrical industry construction and general industry consensus standards such as NFPA, NESC, ASTM, and ANSI
  • Experience with construction workforce desired
  • CPR/FA Certified
  • Ability and experience with presenting and training others
  • Ability to work independently, strong communication skills with the ability to influence behaviors
  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Safety certifications in competency desired
  • Bi-lingual desired
Work Environment & Physical Demands

Extensive travel by vehicle, significant work at construction sites, during all stages, may work inside or outside.  Possible exposure to hot and cold temperatures, in all-weather elements such as rain, heat, cold and snow. This position also requires work at extreme heights, in areas that are under construction, or in restricted areas such as a switchgear room, manhole, utility tunnel, crawl space, or attic, in confined spaces, and on slippery or uneven surfaces; works on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, in ditches and excavations; works in and around single and multi-story buildings with all exposures typical of a heavy construction site, including portable sanitary facilities.

  1. Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, walk, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach overhead.  
  2. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  3. Climb ladders of all types.  
  4. Possess good vision, normal or corrected. 
  5. Specific vision abilities required by his job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  
  6. Possess good hearing, normal or corrected.  
  7. Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest) at all times.  
  8. Must be able to speak and hear detailed information through oral communication.
  9. Must be able to write and talk.
  10. Must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time.
