Apply now to become a paid Medical Assistant Apprentice at Ohio State University Physicians (OSUP) through our partnership with Stepful. The next Medical Assistant Apprenticeship start date is 8/17/2026. To apply for this position, we require that you have open availability to work Monday - Friday between the hours of 7:30am and 5:30pm for a total of 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

Through this paid 4-month program offered in partnership with Stepful, you'll:

  • Earn while you learn as a full-time, paid apprentice
  • Complete online coursework and receive hands-on training at OSUP
  • Gain real-world experience in patient care and clinical skills
  • Prepare for and take your Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam
  • Become eligible for a full-time CCMA position at OSUP upon successful completion

Duties and Responsibilities Following Preceptor Training and ASO Check Offs:

  • In accordance with clinic procedures, greets patients ready to be roomed and escorts patients to exam rooms.
  • May collect the following components of initial data:  patient name, arrival time, who accompanied by; vital signs; height and weight; and chief complaint. 
  • Records, reports, and documents observed symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in the patients' conditions in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • Sets up equipment and prepares exam rooms for patient visits. 
  • Prepares patient and assists with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. 
  • Maintains patient areas and working spaces in a clean, neat and orderly manner.  Responsible for cleaning and turning over rooms as directed. Sterilizes equipment, instruments and medical areas using germicides, sterilizer, or autoclave as directed.
  • Monitors use of supplies/medications, restocks as necessary, and communicates to assigned personnel when supplies need to be ordered.
  • Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
  • Assists with check-in/-out functions, scheduling, patient referrals and follow-ups, and other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Conducts pre-visit reminder phone calls for patients scheduled for upcoming appointments.
  • Assists the provider with real-time documentation of each patient's medical chart during his or her appointment. 
  • Within scope of practice, performs tasks related to medication administration. Assists in quality control efforts for medications, supplies, etc. including but not limited to medication refrigeration.
  • Completes point of care testing (POCT) as ordered by the provider.
  • Provides basic patient care and treatments, such as dressing wounds, suture removal, phlebotomy, venipuncture, injections, EKG, vitals, etc based on job level. 
  • Assists providers with examinations, treatments, special tests, and procedures.   May provide 'after visit summary' and other related communication to the patient, which could include patient requests for RX refills and care related documents.
