Job description

Title: Appian Developer
Location: Malvern, PA (Hybrid – 3 days/week onsite)
Duration: 12+ Months

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Appian Developer to design, develop, and implement enterprise-level business process applications using the Appian BPM platform. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise in Appian development, including SAIL interfaces, process models, integrations, data modeling, and application deployment. The role requires the ability to analyze business requirements, design scalable solutions, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and collaborate with onsite and offshore teams.

The candidate should have strong knowledge of Appian architecture, workflow automation, security, reporting, database integration, and development best practices. Experience leading technical discussions and supporting offshore development teams is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform senior-level analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation of enterprise Appian applications.
  • Design and build Appian BPM solutions using SAIL, Process Models, Interfaces, CDTs, Expression Rules, Records, and Smart Services.
  • Develop applications based on business requirements while following Appian best practices and coding standards.
  • Create scalable workflows, process designs, user interfaces, reports, and dashboards within the Appian platform.
  • Develop and maintain integrations using Web APIs, REST services, built-in Appian connectors, adapters, and custom integration components.
  • Design and optimize data models, CDTs, database structures, and SQL queries to support application functionality.
  • Work with Appian components including Tempo, Mobility features, Forums, Reports, Deployment tools, and Plugin development.
  • Configure application security including user groups, roles, permissions, and process-level security.
  • Develop and manage business rules, expression rules, and understand the advantages and limitations of CDT usage.
  • Design and implement Appian reports and dashboards to support business monitoring and operational needs.
  • Perform application deployments, troubleshooting, debugging, and production support activities.
  • Conduct code reviews, provide technical guidance, and assist development teams in resolving complex issues.
  • Collaborate with offshore teams, provide technical leadership, and ensure successful delivery of Appian solutions.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, requirement discussions, technical reviews, and solution design sessions.
Required Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience developing and implementing applications using the Appian platform.
  • 4+ years of software development experience with strong application design and development skills.
  • Strong expertise in Appian SAIL, Process Modeling, Web APIs, Integrations, CDTs, Interface Design, and Expression Rules.
  • Experience developing enterprise applications using Appian BPM components including Smart Services, Reports, Tempo, Plugins, and Deployment processes.
  • Strong understanding of Appian architecture, process design, security models, group types, and application configuration.
  • Experience with SQL, database design, data modeling, and integrating Appian applications with enterprise databases.
  • Hands-on experience building and consuming APIs and working with Appian integration components.
  • Appian Certified Associate Developer certification required.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work with business stakeholders and technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience creating custom Appian plugins and reusable application components.
  • Experience supporting and mentoring offshore development teams.
  • Experience with enterprise application modernization and workflow automation.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Ability to independently analyze requirements and deliver end-to-end Appian solutions.
