Job description

APEX Placement and Consulting has partnered with an exciting manufacturing company in the Sterling Heights area looking to add a Metal Finisher to their team. This role is perfect for someone with finishing, polishing, or deburring experienceโ€”especially within aerospace or precision manufacturing environments.

What your day will look like:
  • Perform finishing processes such as polishing, grinding, deburring, buffing, and sandblasting on metal components
  • Inspect surfaces of workpieces for defects and determine appropriate finishing methods
  • Select and use proper abrasive belts, wheels, and discs based on material type and condition
  • Operate hand tools and equipment including grinders, belt sanders, buffers, tumblers, and sandblasting equipment
  • Remove excess material, scratches, weld splatter, and burrs to meet tight tolerances and surface finish requirements
  • Polish and blend surfaces, including transitioning forged and machined areas for a smooth, consistent finish
  • Deburr internal features such as fuel ports, EDM holes, and other hard-to-reach areas using hand tools
  • Inspect parts including interior bores and detailed features to ensure quality standards are met
  • Monitor and record dimensions to ensure compliance with customer specifications
  • Complete quality documentation including SPC charts, routers, and tags
  • Ensure proper cleaning and placement of parts in baskets for processing
  • Count and track parts throughout production to maintain accuracy and accountability
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance checks on equipment
  • Maintain consistent production flow across workstations and assist in other operations as needed
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and aligned with safety standards
  • Support additional production needs, including non-aerospace components when required
What we are looking for:
  • 1+ years of experience in metal finishing, deburring, polishing, or similar role
  • Aerospace or precision manufacturing experience preferred
  • Experience using hand tools such as grinders, sanders, or polishing equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints or work instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and quality
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience working with tight tolerances and cosmetic finishes
  • Familiarity with inspection tools (calipers, gauges, etc.)
  • Previous experience in aerospace, automotive, or machining environments
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs as needed
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment
