The Opportunity


COPA's Medical Assistant role is for someone who loves hands-on pediatric care and enjoys being part of a team that truly supports one another. Medical Assistants play a key role in helping our clinics run smoothly while caring for patients and families across COPA. The Job


  • Deliver high-quality pediatric patient care by rooming patients, collecting vitals and medical history, performing screenings, and documenting accurately in the EHR in accordance with clinical standards and regulations.
  • Safely administer medications and immunizations using proper dosing and the Seven Medication Rights, while assisting with procedures and ensuring proper instrument sterilization.
  • Medical Assistants support providers through efficient clinical workflows, including follow-up on orders, responding to patient and provider inquiries, and maintaining thorough, timely documentation.
  • Provide direct patient services such as phlebotomy and patient education, ensuring a positive, informed, and compassionate care experience for children and families.
  • Collaborate across teams and locations to support staffing needs, maintain inventory and supplies, and contribute to training and onboarding of new staff while upholding COPA’s mission and values.
Requirements:


Education and Certification


  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification: Current Certification required from a nationally recognized organization such as the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), The National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), The National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) Certification, National Healthcareer Association (NHA), American Allied Health (AAH), American Medical Technologies (AMT).
  • MA may be eligible to be recognized for additional certifications; secondary certifications must be in addition to MA and may include: OHA HCI Qualified or Certified Interpreter, AAPC-CPC and select NCCT or NHA Phlebotomy certifications. Other: Current CPR for Healthcare Provider required.


Experience

  • Pediatric experience preferred.
  • Epic EMR experience preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus.
  • EMT or Paramedic experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level in person, over the telephone or through use of other required technology.
  • Sitting or standing for long periods of time. Frequent repetitive motion includes computer keyboard use, reaching with hands and arms, and walking. Occasional lifting and or moving up to 30 pounds and on rare occasion up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include viewing computer monitor for long periods of time, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Working Conditions

  • Work inside in a general medical office setting with ergonomically configured equipment.
  • The employee is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to mechanical parts and chemicals including odors. The employee has been identified as having the likelihood of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials, therefore are included in the OSHA Exposure Control Plan with specification for preventing contact with the above materials.
  • Travel between COPA clinics, business office, and lab as required.
