Job Summary:

The Academic Advising Department at RRCC is seeking a motivated and student-focused Peer Advisor I to make a meaningful impact on the college experience of fellow students. As one of the first welcoming faces students encounter, you will help create a supportive environment, guide students through college processes, and connect them with resources that support their success. This position provides the opportunity to learn valuable and transferrable professional skills in communication, customer service, teamwork, and problem-solving while gaining experience in a collaborative higher education environment. With a flexible schedule designed to fit your classes, the Peer Advisor position is a great opportunity to grow professionally while helping other students navigate their academic journey.

As a Peer Advisor, you'll play a key role in supporting daily advising operations by managing appointment scheduling, responding to phone, email, and online inquiries, and providing appointment reminders. You'll assist students with using Navigate and The Rock student portal, registering for classes, and adding or dropping courses. You'll also help maintain a welcoming advising space by keeping computer stations organized and stocked, directing students to the appropriate departments and staff, and contributing to special projects that enhance the student experience.

This position reports directly to Administrative Assistant III, Lisa Webb, and works collaboratively with Academic Advisors, the Student Success Team, and COSI Achieve staff. The work schedule for this position is up to 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., at the Lakewood campus. Hours are flexible and will be scheduled around the student's class schedule. Occasional hours outside of normal work schedule may be required.

This is a work-study position. This position may work up to 20 hours each week while an RRCC student, depending on class schedule, need, and budget availability. Student employees are enrolled and contribute to a TIAA-CREF account when enrolled in less than six credits.

Required Qualifications

For work study employment:

  • Must be an RRCC student and have been granted a work study award for the semester the student is seeking employment and maintain eligibility.
  • Must be enrolled in at least half-time (6 credit hours) and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress for all credit hours.

For student hourly employment:

Physical & Cognitive Demands

  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Advertised Hourly Pay

The hourly pay for this position is $19.37 - $19.89, commensurate with education and experience. This is a part-time, FLSA non-exempt position. This position may work up to 20 hours each week while an RRCC student, depending on need and budget availability. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.

Benefits

Medical insurance is offered to instructors and other variable hour employees who have worked, on average, at least 30 hours per week in a 12-month period. RRCC/CCCS uses an initial 12-month measurement period to determine medical benefit eligibility, and a 12-month standard measurement period. Student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours a week when classes are in session, and may work up to 28 hours a week, during academic breaks or breaks between terms at the discretion of the college, and non-classified hourly and temporary staff are limited to 28 hours in a workweek, depending on budget and need. Sick leave is granted in accordance with SB20-205, Sick Leave for Employees, accrued at one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.

Instructors and non-student hourly are required to contribute to Colorado PERA at a fixed percentage of their salary and do not contribute to Social Security. RRCC/CCCS student employees are not eligible to participate in PERA. RRCC/CCCS offers three tax-deferred investment plans, including 401(k), 403(b) and 457. Employee assistance services such as counseling, professional coaching, financial planning, and more, are available to you and members of your household at no cost through the Colorado State Employee Assistance Program (C-SEAP). State employees are eligible to participate in BenefitHub which offers discounts for retailers and services and other benefits resources.
