Job description

POSITION: Junior Electrical Engineer

REPORTS TO: Electric Department Manager

JOB OBJECTIVE: Design, plan, coordinate, and support electrical utility infrastructure projects that enhance the reliability, safety, and efficiency of Easton Utilities' electric system. Provide engineering support for power generation, transmission, distribution, substations, and control systems through the design, analysis, testing, and implementation of new and existing electrical facilities. Prepare technical specifications and engineering documentation, support capital improvement projects, and assist with system maintenance and emergency restoration efforts. 

This is a full-time, exempt position.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • One (1) year of experience in electric utility engineering, power systems, or a related field is preferred. Relevant internships, co-ops, research, or coursework in power generation, transmission, and distribution will also be considered. 
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and internal and external customers.
  • Ability to support emergency response efforts, including occasional work during electrical outages and severe weather events.
  • Understanding of electric utility systems, including power generation, transmission, distribution, and substations.
  • Working knowledge of equipment rated up to 69 kV, including outdoor substations, medium-voltage switchgear, protective relays, PLCs, and SCADA control systems.
  • Familiarity with reciprocating engine and combustion turbine generation systems is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and apply applicable electrical codes and standards, including NESC and NFPA.
  • Valid driver's license required.

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide electrical engineering support for the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of power generation, transmission, distribution, substations, and related utility infrastructure.
  • Design overhead and underground electrical distribution systems rated 69 kV and below, including equipment sizing, protective relaying, fuse coordination, cost estimating, and installation coordination.
  • Assist with the planning, design, coordination, and execution of capital improvement projects to enhance system reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Perform engineering studies and technical analyses, including fault current, voltage drop, load flow, arc flash, system planning, forecasting, and economic evaluations.
  • Prepare engineering specifications, procurement documents, and review shop drawings, construction drawings, and equipment submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Develop, review, and maintain engineering drawings and system documentation, including one-line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, connection drawings, interconnection drawings, and mapping updates.
  • Support the design, specification, implementation, and maintenance of PLC and SCADA control systems.
  • Design indoor and outdoor lighting systems for utility facilities and infrastructure projects.
  • Provide engineering support to Easton Utilities and the Town of Easton, including technical assistance during electrical outages, storm restoration, and other emergency response efforts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments, contractors, consultants, and vendors to support the successful planning and execution of engineering projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the operations, reliability, and continuous improvement of the Electric Department.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
