PHOTOJOURNALIST

Local 3 News, WRCB-TV of Chattanooga is seeking a skilled, artistic photojournalist who can create shareable, engaging content for broadcast, digital, social, and streaming. The right person has an eye for photographic composition, a strong understanding of the basics of good journalism, and the ability to gather accurate information about stories while working in cooperation with the news director, assignment manager, producers, and reporters. We need someone who can tell great stories on their own or as part of a team, using the latest photography, editing tools, and techniques to create unique content.

Responsibilities

  • Capture and produce compelling video and audio for news, sports, documentary and YouTube-style stories
  • Edit stories using EDIUS for playback during the station's newscasts with sound in a crisp, clean, and creative manner
  • Participate in live performance on-air and on live streaming, operating a live unit (LiveU) when assigned
  • Work either in a team or solo for daily news assignments
  • Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer photos, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories
  • Use all tools of the profession to make news stories as compelling as possible
  • Story Concept (5%), equipment maintenance (5%), photography (60%), editing (25%), and live production (5%)

Qualities and Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; BA/BS in journalism, communications, or a related field preferred, or equivalent years of experience
  • 1–3 years of newsroom experience preferred
  • Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems
  • Must be flexible with schedule, reliable, and dependable
  • Demonstrate news judgment and understand the tenets of ethical journalism
  • Proven ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots
  • Knowledge of EDIUS or any non-linear editing system preferred
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time-pressure deadlines
  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs of photography equipment

NOTE: This position sometimes requires long working hours. To perform this job successfully, this person must have a commitment to the profession that transcends the mentality of a typical 9-5 worker. This job may require working nights, weekends, and holidays because of the unscheduled and immediate nature of the news business.
