Position Summary:
The Assembly and Test Engineer will provide oversight on product development from inception to shipment on a wide variety of turbomachinery in varied industries. This position will entail high level input into design for assembly, part-level risk reduction testing, general performance testing of turbine and electric motor driven turbomachinery using compressible and incompressible fluids, environmental testing (thermal / pressure), and shock/vibe. Coordination is a key attribute to this position, and requires interfacing with a variety of customers both internal and external including Sales, Product Responsible Engineers, Test Engineers, Customers, and Outside Vendors across multiple projects of varied phases, industries, and complexity simultaneously.
Key Results Areas:
1. Define information and processes to facilitate assembly and test to internal and customer requirements
a. Review standard test requirements by customer and industry to develop critical documents for assembly and test.
b. Generate, facilitate review, and release instrumentation list and parts instrumentation diagram to ensure proper test set up.
c. Develop the data acquisition plan and ensure software is configured to properly output the results of the test
d. Research and identify special test or assembly hardware/software needed to meet the project requirements.
e. Review customer specification and provide feedback to product test-ability
f. Estimate rough order of magnitude costs to perform requested testing
2. Develop procedures and processes to verify and validate requirements and ensure timely delivery of high-quality product
a. Write, review, and release technical instructions to ensure clear direction for assembly and test per customer requirements and company standards including P&IDs component BOMs, and tooling requirements.
b. Develop detailed test plans that outline procedure, entry requirements, expected results, and schedule
c. Document test results in a manner that can concisely be presented to Project Management, Engineering, and the customer.
d. If the test fails or does not meet performance standards troubleshoot the issues and determine if conditions need changed or process redeveloped.
e. Identify daily safety, quality, delivery cost issues and report to management in the daily work status meeting.
3. Collaborate with other departments to ensure that information and data transfers effectively to meet customer needs and organizational objectives.
a. Coordinate with design resources as required to design custom test loop components
b. Collaborate with Purchasing to ensure that parts and equipment needed to meet customer requirements are identified, ordered from an approved supplier and received per the schedule needs.
c. Coordinate with Strategic Sourcing to identify, qualify and scope vendors required for outside testing.
a. Coordinate with vendors as needed /required for testing to ensure lead times can be met.
b. Collaborate with engineering to ensure work instructions, drawings, test plans for Assembly & Test are released and accurate in order to properly meet customer requirements.
c. Verify and validate that the gages and equipment used in testing are calibrated and in good condition to ensure the quality of the test.
d. Lead test readiness review with Project Management, Engineering, Production and Quality to ensure program is ready for test per the test plan.
e. Plan and conduct technical and safety reviews prior to testing to ensure the quality of the product and safety of employees is maintained.
4. Execute test plans to validate product while adhering to schedule demands
a. Review requirements, work instructions and drawings with the technicians to clarify questions and ensure understanding of customer requirements.
b. Conduct the test per the test plan or work with designated test personnel to carry out test
c. Oversee outside vendor design/development/testing to ensure testing meets identified requirements
d. Review and verify the test loop for correctness and safe operations to ensure that the requirements are met.
e. Troubleshoot assembly issues and escalate engineering and department management as required.
f. Mentor and train assembly technicians on build processes.
5. Continuously improve procedures, processes and methods to ensure quality with zero defects and excursions.
a. Identify and validate lessons learned with Project Engineering group to drive continuous improvement.
b. Ensure that all lessons learned are incorporated into work instructions to ensure that the quality of the product and BN processes continually improve.
c. Identify areas for improvement in process and product relating to safety, quality, delivery and cost then elevate them to the Assembly & Testing Manager.
d. Provide insight to facilitate internal test capability expansion and capital improvement
e. Assist on continuous improvement teams to help drive department improvements
Requirements
Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience and abilities required.
Education and Training
โ€ข Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience working in high aptitude manufacturing environment.
Experience:
  • Five years related experience in a complex test environment
  • Experience in rotating equipment troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated success with new product to production test campaign
  • Experience leading test loop design efforts
  • P&ID creation
  • Test plan creation
  • Component selection

Varied experience testing to multiple standards:
  • MIL-STD-810
  • CE
  • ATEX
  • NASA
  • Testing on a set budget with schedule as primary driver

Other:
  • Must be willing to work overtime as required
  • Travel up to 30% of working time.

Desired Job Qualification:
  • Experience with recognized quality systems (ISO, AS, QS, TS).
  • Solidworks design experience
  • Vibration Institute Certification

Compensation and Benefits :
The salary range for this role is $95,000 - $115,000 and is commensurate with the applicant's experience. This range represents the anticipated minimum and maximum base for this position. The final compensation for this position will be set based on the applicant's qualifications (education, training and/or experience related to this role), and therefore, may fall outside the range shown, depending on the circumstances.
