Primary Purpose of the Automation Assembly Operator
The Automation Assembly Operator independently assembles pneumatic grippers, linear actuators, and automatic tool changers in SCHUNK's modern, climate-controlled manufacturing environment. Success in this position requires a high attention to detail, thorough inspection, and clear communication to maintain quality, production efficiency, and continuous improvement.
What You Will Do
- Following technical drawings, tolerances, and assembly instructions to execute assembly processes.
- Independently perform the production process from start-to-finish including component staging, tool selection, assembly, inspection, failure diagnosis, rework, and packaging.
- Perform in-process and final inspections using inspection sheets and precision measuring instruments to verify conformance to specifications.
- Ownership of components and finished assemblies throughout the process, ensuring quality, accuracy, and completion of all required process steps before releasing end product for customer.
- Keep tools, gauges, equipment, and work areas organized and ready for use.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and cross-functional teams regarding process needs, improvements, production challenges, and quality concerns.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 6-12 months' experience in mechanical assembly in a manufacturing environment or completion of a related technical/industrial training program.
- Ability to read and follow assembly work instructions and basic mechanical drawings (dimensions, notes, tolerances).
- Proficient with common hand tools and torque tools; able to follow torque specifications and assembly sequences.
- Ability to perform in-process and final inspections and accurately complete production/inspection documentation.
- Experience performing standardized functional testing (connect assemblies to a test fixture/machine, run a defined program, verify pass/fail criteria, and document results).
- Ability to maintain an organized, clean workstation and safely handle/pack finished goods for shipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years' experience in mechanical assembly, preferably in automation/industrial product assembly.
- Experience assembling and troubleshooting pneumatic and/or hydraulic systems (fittings, tubing/hoses, seals/O-rings, leak paths, contamination awareness).
- Prior leak testing experience (pressure/flow or similar) and ability to perform basic failure diagnosis and rework per instructions.
- Experience working in an ISO/quality-driven manufacturing environment and documenting nonconformances.
- Experience using ERP/MES systems for work orders, serialization/lot traceability, and recording test results.
- Industrial packaging experience (protective packing methods and labeling practices).
