Job description

This position can be located in Edmonton, Alberta or Houston, Texas

Key Position Functions:

• Support and maintain the standard Stream-Flo Industries Gate Valve product lines.
• Coordinate and execute on new product line design and development.
• Create design file, engineering bulletin for Stream-Flo Industries Gate Valve product lines.
• Create and maintain engineering standards.
• Prepare detailed drawings of parts, assemblies and related items.
• Perform diverse engineering activities involving product evolution and design.
• Support project personnel for specific phases or aspects of projects such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans and product testing.
• Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, industry standards, customer requirements and related specifications.
• Provide necessary calculations required on new and existing products.
• Provides engineering production support to machining, welding, assembly and other departments.
• Provide technical support for field service, the customer, sales and manufacturing.
• Evaluate and report on new materials, technology and techniques for improving manufacturing and service of the product line.
• In coordination with the quality department, troubleshoot quality issues as it pertains to material rejects, material review, warrantee issues and custom engineering requirements (NCIR’s).
• Develop, write and implement production procedures as it pertains to the support of engineering functions. (i.e. machining, test, assembly, etc.)
• Review industry literature and keep abreast of market product trends and technology.
• Provides guidance to junior engineers and technical staff on technical issues, corporate policies, project management, and divisional objectives.
• Responsible for reviewing and approving engineering work.
• Ensuring compliance with safety principles applicable to the project.
• Identify and recommend processes for design improvement and innovation.

Preferred candidates will possess a combination of the following qualifications:

• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University or Technical Institute.
• Membership with APEGA or ASET or eligible to get membership: P.Eng. or P.Tech. (Eng.).
• Minimum 6 or more years of Product Design Experience.
• Proficient with and experience in the use of ANSI, ASME and ISO Drafting Techniques and Geometric Tolerance.
• Thorough knowledge of API 6A and related API / ISO Product Requirements.
• Thorough knowledge of Stress Analysis.
• Thorough knowledge of the Development and Control of Design Documentation.
• Thorough knowledge of Internal Economic Factors.
• Proficient Technical Writing.
• Thorough knowledge of gate valve industry and all competitors.
• Thorough knowledge of the specialized area of product expertise and processed and overall industry.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables and situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Extensive customer relations and technical sales experience.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Field installation experience.
