Their duties can include reading blueprints, using hand or power tools, inspecting finished parts, and ensuring products meet quality standards. Assembly Associates play a crucial role in keeping production moving efficiently and safely. They typically work as part of a team and may be required to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks. Attention to detail and manual dexterity are important skills for this position.

What are some common challenges assembly associates face when working on a fast-paced production line?

Assembly Associates often work in environments where meeting production targets and maintaining product quality are essential. Job description

Assembly & Test Technician I

Location: Chaska, MN (On-site)
Employment Type:
Full-Time

Our client is a leading aerospace and defense manufacturer specializing in precision electromechanical products, including brushless DC motor systems used in power and actuation applications. They're hiring an Assembly & Test Technician I to join their production floor team, building and testing critical hardware that goes into demanding aerospace and defense systems.

This is a hands-on role for someone with strong mechanical aptitude who takes pride in precision work โ€” soldering, winding, crimping, bonding, and assembling components to exact specifications, then verifying they perform exactly as designed.

What You'll Do

  • Assemble and test electromechanical hardware and subassemblies per drawings, work instructions, and routings
  • Solder, crimp, wind, bond, and assemble critical electronic and mechanical components
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
  • Use precision measuring tools โ€” micrometers, calipers, depth mics โ€” to confirm geometries and dimensions
  • Set up and operate test equipment: multimeters, ohmmeters, voltmeters, torque wrenches, dynamometers, load cells
  • Conduct functional testing, troubleshoot failures, perform rework, and document results accurately
  • Maintain accurate parts counts and job documentation throughout the build process
  • Identify root causes of test failures and support corrective action efforts
  • Follow ESD (electrostatic discharge) handling procedures for sensitive components
  • Package finished hardware per ESD procedures
  • Maintain clean, working condition of hand tools and flag equipment needing repair
  • Identify and report routing or documentation discrepancies to your supervisor
  • Contribute ideas to Lean/continuous improvement initiatives

What You Bring

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated mechanical/technical aptitude with hands-on assembly or test experience
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints and technical drawings
  • Strong attention to detail; comfortable in a fast-paced, procedure-driven environment
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer literacy, including MS Office
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen (ITAR/export control requirement)

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with soldering, crimping, or wire harness assembly
  • Experience working to mil-spec or aerospace/defense quality standards
  • Familiarity with ESD-safe handling procedures

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing/production floor environment
  • Use of hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and electronic test equipment
  • Proper PPE required for chemical handling as applicable
Benefits

Competitive base salary plus quarterly bonus, medical/dental/vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) with company match, generous tuition assistance, paid vacation/sick/personal time, paid holidays, and flexible/compressed work week options.

Equal Opportunity Employer โ€“ M/F/IWD/Veterans. Veterans encouraged to apply.
