Job description

JOB PURPOSE
Material Handler reports to Foreman/Supervisor. Receive, examine, issue, store,
transfer, load and unload materials, supplies, and equipment; may drive tractor-trailer; ensure adequate supply of stock; operate forklift truck and order picker.
prepare material tickets; and notify appropriate personnel concerning
erroneously shipped materials, supplies, and equipment. ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS: Issue materials, supplies, and equipment upon receipt of proper
document; transfer to proper area and/or department. Load, unload and store
incoming/outgoing materials, supplies, and equipment; convey materials,
supplies and equipment as directed using truck or material handling drawers
according to safety and identifying information such as style, size, code number
and/or year; take inventory of stock; perform cycle counts to maintain inventory
control. Assemble material into units or kits as required, count, weigh, and
package items to be stocked, loaded, or transferred. Inspect material prepared
for transfer to other storerooms, store or hold erroneously shipped materials,
supplies, and equipment. Prepare RMR's, purchase requisitions, sales slips, bill
of lading, work tickets and other related paperwork, distribute as required.
prepare and arrange for materials, supplies, reels, and containers to be returned
to vendor. Schedule routes for delivery; load/unload materials and supplies.
secure load; and drive tractor-trailer in the transporting and issuing of materials,
supplies and equipment from/to storerooms and other locations. Clean, replace
various parts, and process salvageable materials and supplies to be credited to
stock; junk non-salvageable items; and handle various hazardous materials.
Perform miscellaneous filing, typing and clerical duties; answer inquiries; enter
and retrieve data utilizing computer equipment. Audit various printouts to
determine usage and availability of stock, initiate material transfer to order stock.
Prepare mileage tickets for overnight deliveries/pickups report when required.
Operate Division vehicle, tractor-trailer in transporting of materials, material
handling equipment, dock-mounted crane, forklift, tractor-trailer and truck
repairs/maintenance on small material handling equipment and report
malfunctions; adhere to safety rules. Perform various housekeeping duties in
storeroom and in yard area. Perform other duties as directed.
EDUCATION High School Diploma or GED required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Must successfully fulfill the checklist requirement of Stores probationary period.
Must be able to distinguish visual details and colors. Must have a valid driver's
license from state of residence. Must successfully complete Placement/
Performance Exercises and Physical Abilities Test. Must successfully complete
Division's training on operating a forklift truck. Must successfully complete Data
Entry Exercises, Group C. Must successfully complete Customer Contact Test.
May require a valid Class A Commercial driver's license from state of residence.
Physical Demands: Works inside and outside. Subject to working around
material handling equipment: and physical activities such as climbing, standing,
walking, bending, stooping, grasping and pulling/pushing. Requires heavy
lifting/carrying up to 100lbs.
