POSITION SUMMARY

Provide quality teaching and learning, diagnostics, assessment, advise students, and complete other assignments that enable the department to achieve its purpose and advance the mission of Marion Technical College (the “College”).

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Maintain confidentiality and privacy in accordance with the College, FERPA, student records, and any other protected documentation.

2) Provide quality teaching in assigned Aspire courses to meet objectives and student learning needs corresponding to the level and content of each course and to Ohio’s Aspire standards.

3) Demonstrate expertise, enthusiasm, and creativity in teaching; produce an environment where learning and self-improvement occur.

4) Communicate effectively, facilitate the learning process by utilizing appropriate methods, and prepare and update assigned individual lesson plans on a regular basis.

5) Demonstrate knowledge of instructional methods, developmental education, student success strategies, curriculum development principles, diverse learning styles, and best practices in helping at-risk students succeed.

6) Proficient with technology and willing to learn and apply distance education techniques.

7) Work collaboratively with all student support service areas throughout the college that focus on at-risk students, including admissions, tutoring, mentoring, and first-year advisors.

8) Conduct and assist with student orientation and follow-up. Direct and provide tutorial assistance to students.

9) Meet with the Director and other teachers from Aspire sites. Maintain classroom and other records.

10) Participate effectively as a team member, demonstrating group problem solving/decision-making ability with good communication skills and the ability to relate well with co-workers, student, and community members.

11) Attend a minimum of two professional development activities per year.

12) Supervise and provide direction to aids and/or volunteers. Build and maintain relationships with students, participants, the College, and community members.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This position is grant-funded and contingent upon the continuation of external funding. This position may be eliminated or reduced with or without notice, if funding should cease or be reduced.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited college or university in Education or related field required; Master's degree from a regionally-accredited college or university preferred. Prior teaching experience in an Aspire program or at a college or university preferred. Willingness to work an irregular schedule as assigned. Ability to successfully pass a background check, prior to and after employment. Valid driver’s license or dependable transportation required.

ADA SPECIFICATIONS

This position is classified as Faculty and will teach in a wide range of educational venues to provide quality instruction to a diverse student population for the college, primarily in a classroom or office setting. Further information may be obtained from Human Resources.
