Job description

CES Consulting, LLC, is an engineering and construction management firm focused on quality, safety, compliance, innovation, and value. The firm was founded in 2010 by three professionals passionate about resolving complex construction, time, and cost issues to ensure that transportation and civil infrastructure are safe, durable, and compliant. Over the years, CES expanded its services to include utility management, construction at-risk, and civil engineering services.

We are currently hiring a Construction/Paving Inspector for the Montgomery or Prince George's County Maryland areas Job mileage reimbursement is provided at current federal rate (.76C/mile).

Position Summary:

Employees perform construction.. Specific duties depend on job assignments and may include inspecting construction and maintenance projects; conducting roadway and bridge inspections; evaluating methods for maintenance operations; calculating quantities for construction projects and maintenance activities. Employees in this class may serve as a Project Manager on small sized construction projects.
Work is performed under the general supervision of an engineer, or higher level technical employees. Work conditions vary depending on assignments and are performed in the office or in the field during inspection assignments with exposure to varying weather conditions and rough terrain and requirements for walking, standing, bending, and lifting loads weighing up to 50 pounds; may require working in close proximity with traffic on Maryland highways; requires hand/eye coordination in the efficient operation of computers and other office
machines.Work assignments not reduced due to weather. Consistent 40 hours plus opportunities for overtime.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency
certificate.

Experience: One or more years of experience in construction or inspection related work in the areas of construction, materials testing, or maintenance.

Notes:
1. Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college
or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

2. Applicants who possess an Associates Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or
Surveying or Surveying Technology from an accredited community college, college or university are
considered to have met two years of the required experience.

Knowledge of basic mathematics and ability to calculate cost estimates for work orders.

Work outdoors in inclement weather and possess the ability to lift objects that weigh up to 50 lbs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspects paving, concrete, striping, and landscaping restoration.
  • Documents placement of material by contractor and verifies that material is from an approved source of supply and that it is the proper material.
  • Checks temperature and quality of the paving material provided and witnesses the sampling and testing of materials.
  • Measures quantity of material placed and documents inspection findings in Inspector's Daily Report in electronic format using iPad.
  • Ensures contractor work is performed safely.
  • Inspects completed work and approves payment.
  • Completes Daily Inspection Reports,Timesheets, and Mileage reports in a timely manner
  • Provide training to new paving inspectors.
  • Attend project meetings as scheduled.

Education, Certifications, and Experience:

  • Practical knowledge of asphalt paving.
  • Current MARTCP or WACEL Asphalt Field certification highly preferred. Must obtain MARTCP Asphalt Field cert within 6 months of hiring. CES covers the class expense for the online class.
  • Must communicate fluently in English, both oral and written.
  • Hourly pay will be commensurate with experience.
