Job SummaryThe University seeks a person who is fluent in American Sign Language, with high energy, enthusiasm, and vision to work within the department. The Department offers coursework at the undergraduate level in American Sign Language (BA-ASL with three tracks: K-12 Teacher, Educational Interpreting, and Advocacy). At the graduate level, the department offers a master's degree in Deaf Studies and a master's degree in Deaf Education. The department has a long-standing doctorate in Deaf Studies and Deaf Education. Additionally, the BA and MS areas offer coursework leading to teacher certification.
Essential Job Functions- Advise and counsel undergraduate ASL majors, as well as graduate majors in master's and doctoral Deaf Studies programs.
- teach undergraduate, master's, and doctoral courses within the Department, as the program mandates.
- serve on departmental, college, and university committees, as necessary.
- conduct research, scholarly activities, and grant writing to meet program needs; and 5) meet other day-to-day responsibilities of the faculty position as necessary.
Minimum and Desired QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: - An earned doctoral degree in Deaf Education, American Sign Language, or a closely related field. ABDs or close to ABD may be considered?
Desired Qualifications:- Native or near-native ASL fluency
- University teaching experience preferred
- Knowledge of Deaf culture, and extensive personal and professional experiences within the Deaf community
- Knowledge regarding curriculum and instruction for post-secondary learners
- Demonstrated teaching, research, and publication skills
